POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
For anyone who has ever smiled while falling apart—this is for you.

Introducing Scars in Satin, a podcast for the conversations we usually whisper. The grief no one sees. The moments that make us question our worth. The messy, beautiful, painful process of becoming.

As a wedding photographer and oncology nurse, I’ve witnessed joy and heartbreak, sometimes in the very same room. And in my own life, I’ve learned how much it means to have someone see you when you barely recognize yourself.

Sometimes, there are no perfect words. But there is someone willing to listen. Someone who lets you tell the truth without asking you to make it prettier.

That’s why I created this space.

Here, you don’t have to have the lesson yet. You can bring the questions, the faith, the grief, and the hope you’re still learning to hold.

Scars in Satin launches October 13, with new episodes every Tuesday. 🎙️

Follow along for the launch, and share this with someone who needs a place to feel seen.

You’re home here. 🤍

I thought I had to pick a lane.

Photographer. Nurse. Storyteller. Creator. Speaker. And a woman who’s still figuring some of it out, even now.

For a long time I tried to shrink myself down to whichever one felt most “acceptable” that year … like I owed everyone a single, tidy answer to “so what do you do?”

Turns out that was never the assignment. I wasn’t supposed to choose. I was supposed to build something big enough to hold all of it at once.

So this is House of Ryann. Six rooms, one address, all her.

Which room do you live in most right now? Tell me below 👇

The first time you laugh after a painful chapter, you might feel surprised by the sound.

For a moment, you recognize yourself. Then you wonder how happiness can still find you when so much remains unresolved.

I am learning to let that moment stay.

A good afternoon does not erase a difficult season. Enjoying something does not mean the loss stopped mattering.

There can be music in the car, sunlight through the window, a conversation that makes you laugh until you forget to be careful.

I want to make room for those moments, even while my heart is healing.

What has made you feel a little more like yourself lately?

“I was hurt by you” and “I miss you” can exist at the same time.

You can miss the sound of their voice, the familiar routines, the version of the future you pictured and still remember the ways you were hurt.

Missing someone doesn’t erase what happened. And acknowledging the hurt doesn’t mean the love was never real.

Sometimes healing is learning to hold both truths without asking one to cancel the other. taken in Powder Horn Golf Club by @ryannlindsey

If you’ve spent years trying to be easy to love, you may have forgotten to ask what feels true to you. Coming back to yourself can begin with a pause.

Here are 30 ways to start:

1. Pause before saying yes.
2. Ask yourself what you actually want.
3. Notice when you’re afraid someone will be upset.
4. Stop volunteering to fix every problem.
5. Let others speak for themselves.
6. Share your real preference.
7. Practice saying, “Let me think about it.”
8. Notice when you’re editing your personality.
9. Stop overexplaining ordinary choices.
10. Ask for help before you’re depleted.
11. Let someone else choose the restaurant.
12. Don’t take responsibility for moods you didn’t cause.
13. Make one plan based on your own interest.
14. Say no to a small request you don’t have capacity for.
15. Stop confusing being needed with being loved.
16. Let silence happen without rushing to fill it.
17. Notice when you agree but feel resentment.
18. Ask, “Would I still do this if nobody praised me?”
19. Choose honesty over being universally liked.
20. Stop changing your needs to match someone else’s comfort.
21. Make a list of what you enjoy.
22. Keep one appointment with yourself.
23. Let people misunderstand you sometimes.
24. Tell the truth kindly.
25. Stop chasing approval after a reasonable choice.
26. Make decisions based on your values.
27. Allow relationships to adjust as you become more honest.
28. Notice the difference between generosity and self-abandonment.
29. Practice receiving without immediately giving back.
30. Remember: your needs are part of the relationship, too.

Save this as a reminder that your needs belong in your life, too.

A boundary isn’t proof that you stopped caring. Sometimes it’s how you keep caring without leaving yourself out of the picture.

Here are 30 ways to practice being clear and kind:

1. Say, “I’m not available for that.”
2. Give a clear answer instead of a vague maybe.
3. Take time before responding.
4. Keep your explanation brief.
5. Decide what you can offer before committing.
6. Protect your rest.
7. End a conversation that becomes disrespectful.
8. Ask someone not to speak to you that way.
9. Decline plans without inventing an excuse.
10. Set limits on when you’re available.
11. Say, “That doesn’t work for me.”
12. Stop taking responsibility for everyone’s reaction.
13. Share personal information at your own pace.
14. Ask before someone makes plans on your behalf.
15. Limit contact when you need space.
16. Keep work time separate from personal time.
17. Leave a situation that feels overwhelming.
18. Be specific about what needs to change.
19. Don’t negotiate a boundary you’ve already decided.
20. Let “no” be a complete sentence when appropriate.
21. Practice the words before a difficult conversation.
22. Stop saying yes to avoid disappointing someone.
23. Set expectations with family members.
24. Ask for help before you’re overextended.
25. Follow through on the limit you stated.
26. Notice resentment as a signal to check your capacity.
27. Make room for your needs, too.
28. Give yourself permission to change a previous yes.
29. Remember that kindness and firmness can coexist.
30. Let people be disappointed without abandoning yourself.

Which boundary are you learning to hold with love?

A breakup can take the future you pictured and leave you standing in a life you don’t recognize yet. You’re allowed to rebuild slowly, one honest, ordinary moment at a time.

Here are 30 gentle places to begin:

1. Let grief come in waves.
2. Stop demanding that you be “over it” on a schedule.
3. Mute reminders that reopen the wound.
4. Keep a simple daily routine.
5. Make plans with one supportive person.
6. Write the message you want to send, then wait before deciding.
7. Miss the good parts and still remember the hard parts.
8. Put away items when you feel ready.
9. Create one new ritual that belongs to you.
10. Eat something, even if it’s simple.
11. Get outside for a few minutes.
12. Grieve the future you imagined.
13. Talk to someone who won’t pressure you to reconcile or move on.
14. Notice what you learned about your needs.
15. Avoid major choices made only to escape the pain.
16. Give yourself a gentle bedtime routine.
17. Let friends help with practical tasks.
18. Take a break from checking their social media.
19. Make a playlist for different moods.
20. Write down what you want your next relationship to feel like.
21. Let healing include anger, sadness, relief, and confusion.
22. Remember that longing is not an instruction.
23. Take one task at a time.
24. Reconnect with something you enjoyed before the relationship.
25. Build a day that doesn’t revolve around hearing from them.
26. Ask for professional support if grief feels unmanageable.
27. Give yourself permission to have a good day.
28. Be honest about what hurt.
29. Let closure begin with what you know, even if you never get every answer.
30. Take the next step without needing to know the whole path.

If you’re in this chapter, you don’t have to have it all figured out. What’s one small thing you can do for yourself today?

There is a particular ache in wondering why someone did not choose you.

It can follow you into the mirror, into the quiet, into every memory you revisit looking for something you could have done differently.

I am learning to stop asking someone else’s decision to explain my worth.

And I am beginning with small promises to myself. Eating something nourishing. Calling someone who cares. Telling the truth about what I need. Making room for a desire I kept postponing.

Choosing myself feels unfamiliar some days. But I want to become someone I can count on, too.

What is one promise you can keep to yourself today?

Some prayers arrive as tears before they become words.

I used to think trusting God would make uncertainty feel easier. Sometimes it does. Other days, I still want the answer, the timeline, and a glimpse of where this road is going.

I am learning to bring that honest heart into prayer.

“God, I am hurting. I do not understand. Help me recognize the next thing that needs my care.”

Today, faith might look like asking for help, making one responsible choice, or allowing myself to rest.

I can keep turning toward God with questions still in my hands.

Save this for a day when your hope feels quiet.
