Funeral homes are underserving most families.

Before you get your panties in a bunch, watch the whole video. I think you’ll agree with me.

We can’t expect families to understand our value when we haven’t educated them on who we are, what we do, and how we do it better than anybody else.

How can they choose something they don’t even know is an option?

Watch it. Then tell me in the comments: agree or disagree? And why?

Let’s have a conversation. by @ryanthogmartin

Funeral homes are getting tricked by companies they trust.

Just because your pre-need company, website company, or even NFDA gives you professional-looking, generic content to post doesn’t mean you have a social media strategy.

Your community needs to see YOU. Your people. Your personality. What makes your funeral home different.

Organic video is how you show them. If you want to win on social media, that needs to be the priority. by @ryanthogmartin

The biggest myth in funeral marketing is that families only choose you through word of mouth. Here is why.

Word of mouth gets you mentioned, but it rarely closes the decision alone anymore. When someone recommends your funeral home, the first thing that family does is look you up on their phone. by @ryanthogmartin

Funeral pricing transparency…

Upfront pricing removes the awkwardness and fear around end-of-life costs before the family ever sits down with you. It establishes immediate trust when they are feeling vulnerable. by @ryanthogmartin

95.3% of the grief quotes on funeral home Facebook pages get zero likes and zero comments.

We analyzed 7,537 of them. That is not a content strategy. That is a graveyard.

Your preneed company will never tell you this, because they are the ones automating it.

Families do not choose a funeral home because of a stock photo sunset. They choose the firm they trust, and trust is built when your content shows who you are, what you do, and how you do it better than anyone else.

Kill the quote graphics.

More automated junk, is still junk.

Stock photos, inspirational quotes, and generic graphics don’t teach your community anything about you.

They’re not meeting your team. They’re not hearing why you do this work. They’re not getting answers to the questions they’re actually asking.

And if you’re automating more of that content, you’re just publishing more stuff people scroll right past.

Here’s the fix: pick up your phone. Answer one real question. Introduce someone on your team. Explain something you wish every family knew.

Give your community something worth paying attention to. by @ryanthogmartin

It’s a big opportunity missed…

Refusing to take your camera into the prep room - no problem.

Don’t want to talk about embalming or the embalming process - no problem.

Not recording short form video content to educate your community - that’s a big opportunity MISSED! by @ryanthogmartin

Funeral homes on social media is disrespectful.

Families are already on social media looking for answers before they ever need you. The only question is whether they find you or someone else.

Educating a family is not advertising. It is service. And it is the most respectful thing a funeral home can do.

Obituary Links: 5 Things Funeral Homes Can Do…

Facebook just limited obituary link posts to 2 per month for business pages.

Most funeral homes are freaking out. But link posts were barely getting reach anyway, so Facebook may have actually done you a favor.

Here are 5 moves I would make right now:

1. Build obituary subscribers. Post a video telling your community where to find obituaries, and drive them to your website to subscribe to notifications. Build an audience you own.

2. Make the obituary the content. Photo, name, short obituary, service info, right inside Facebook. Stop relying on a link preview.

3. Start text obituary alerts. “Text OBITS to 12345.” Now you are not hoping the algorithm shows it. You reach them directly.

4. Make obituaries video-first. Turn the photos you already have into respectful 30-45 second memorial videos. Real people, real stories, native content.

5. Get a URL people can actually remember. If your site is RyanThogmartinFuneralHomeAndCremation.com, market something short like RTFH.com and redirect it to your existing website.

The funeral homes that win on social will not be the ones posting the most links. They will be the ones with the most trust.
