Amor Fati V8 FA

nestled on an idyllic coastline near hunter’s beach, this rock tumbled from above. september unlocked the stand start last season, and since then we’ve been toiling away at the few moves that guard the sit start.

one sunny day this spring, i found a way up it! he followed, and so it was.

“amor fati” translates to “love of fate,” a concept coined by friedrich nietzsche. in short, it’s an attitude in which one accepts and affirms all of life: its chaos, the joy and pain, the comfort and discomfort. one must see this affirmation as necessary to grow.

as i approach nearly a decade of climbing, and nearly three decades of life, i, among many, can say that it has not all been easy. there has been pain, euphoria, frustration, love, heartbreak, adventure, injury, learning, trauma, awe, dejection, and sweet laughter.

standing atop, surrounded by my family, i felt the necessity of all of those moments. i affirmed them, willing to live them all again.
