We took away Ryan’s eyesight and told him to make a pot 😭

Somehow he ended up with a Moon Jar！

The BTH wheel did its part and stayed steady — the rest was all Ryan.

The wheel keeps turning. So does Ryan. ☝🏻

Last time: 31 cm
This time: 32.5 cm

Not the #BTH2KGChallenge record — but a new personal best.

Same 2 kg of clay. Another try. Another 1.5 cm.

Keep spinning. Keep pushing.

Who’s coming back for another attempt?

Tag @bth_jingdezhen + #bth2kgchallenge with yours.

5 random tools. 1 blind pick. No changing your mind.

@rynlabar picked a letter…
and ended up with a fork. 🍴

The challenge? Use whatever you get to create a surface texture on the wheel.

Would you take the challenge?

Tag BTH and use #BTHRandomToolChallenge if you try your own version.

The #BTH2KGChallenge starts now! How high can you go? 👀

Why 2 kg? It’s enough clay to give you room to push the height, but little enough that every bit counts.

Now it’s your turn.

Grab 2 kg of clay, throw it as high as you can, measure your final piece, then tag @BTH + use #BTH2KGChallenge so we can see your attempt.

Think you can go higher? 👀

“Working with clay, l fabricate individual and wheel thrown elements. These, together with other clay parts, are carefully stacked on top of each other to compose a layered and woven structure. Each element counterbalances the position of another. These precarious constructs are placed in a kiln, and the heat of the kiln melts and moves the clay and glaze. The clay parts deform as the material softens. Tensions are released, causing the system to undergo a domino effect best described as a cascading failure where the failure of one part triggers the failure of successive parts. As the firing progresses, the movement quiets and the system of parts reach equilibrium and become a singular and rested whole.”

⭐️ This artwork will be exhibited at Art Central Hong Kong 2025, Booth D23!
