It's been a long time since I introduced myself on here, and the new year seemed like a good time to do it!

First off, if you're new here, welcome! It's good to have you along! And you picked a good time to poke around, as I hope to be more active here over the next few months.

I'm R.M. Archer--you can call me Archer--and I'm a Christian author endeavoring to write edifying speculative fiction with the use of meaningful worlds, and helping equip other authors to do the same through worldbuilding resources and freelance editing. (I'll be sharing more about that in a couple weeks, but I'm also open to questions now if either of those is of interest to you!)

I'm also a homeschool graduate, wife, and stay-at-home mom (expecting our first this summer!) who enjoys crocheting, listening to music, singing, spending time with my family, reading classics (among other things), and drinking tea.

Making an actual announcement about the sabbatical I've been on, instead of just ghosting everyone, lol. This is the general overview; there will be two posts later to expand on what this means for engaging with me and my work and why I think it's valuable to take an intentional sabbath year away from creative work and business as an entrepreneur.

The Mirror-Hunter Chronicles

All the fairytales you've heard are wrong. They've all been twisted to be acceptable for general consumption, but I'm here to set the record straight. I'm Solem Anders, Mirror-Hunter, and this is what really happened. A Series of Unfortunate Events meets Once Upon a Time in this short story series as Solem Anders pursues a volatile magic mirror across Ambrel, seeking to destroy it and end its trail of tragedy....

Calligraphy Guild

Dragon ink gives calligraphers the power to set history in stone—or to change it. Lai Duyên’s dreams are realized when she’s admitted into the ranks of the calligraphers, authors considered trustworthy enough to defend time from those who would change it. She’s thrilled at the opportunity to record her country’s history, and to work with the other calligraphers in her village....

Happy National Appreciate a Dragon Day!

I had a lot of fun writing about the variety of dragons in Calligraphy Guild—from ancient, massive Guardian dragons that act as sentinels of time all the way down to miniature dragons, wyverns, drakes, and amphitheres that act as companions and almost house pets to the main characters and others in Hairen—and I also want to appreciate the beautiful dragon cover that Alli May designed for the book!

What's your favorite style of dragon? Small "house pet" dragons? Classically huge dragons with hoards of gold? Dragons that support a society of riders? Something else?

If you like a variety, plus community themes, slow-paced fantasy, and the idea of magic ink that can rewrite time (but shouldn't), check out Calligraphy Guild through the link in my bio! by @rysaarcher

God gave us the sabbath as more than a weekly pattern; He called for us to observe it throughout our whole lives. These are a few of the benefits He's showing me in taking a sabbath year away from high-pressure creative work.

There's a river in the bag...
But not this bag, because it would ruin the library books. If you want to read about the river-filled bag, you'll have to read the Scorch trilogy by @scribbledfiction (which remains my favorite fiction read this year--including the first two as rereads!)

The accompanying short story collection just released today, and it's also super fun! My review is up on the blog today and can be found via the link in my bio.

If you like strong friendships, humor, skillfully mounting tension, and carrying rivers around in bags... check out the Scorch trilogy! by @rysaarcher

Having worked on several projects with Sarah throughout the years, including her previous book Escape from Mathebos, I was super excited when I heard she was working on a cozy fantasy mystery series! I'm always super excited to see more Christian-authored cozy fantasy books, and cozy fantasy plus cozy mystery sounds like the perfect mix, so I couldn't wait to read…...

This calling is unquestionable.

There are days I wonder if God is really calling me to write, to grow my mentorship business, to be an editor. Especially on days like today when it seems like things are all becoming uncertain all at once. (Multiple overhead costs for my business are spiking unexpectedly this month and I only have so much buffer.)

Sometimes it's hard to know if He wants me to keep pursuing that work, even when I remember His past faithfulness and the fruit He's brought about to this point. With something as temporary as a business, today could always be the day God calls you in a different direction, and discernment can be difficult.

But following the frustration and anger and doubt of finding out that *another* cost was increasing this month, I spent some time tending to this first Little Arrow and folding laundry and I was able to rest in the fact that *this* vocation is secure.

As long as I have a household to steward, there is unquestionably the work set before me to love my family well, to pray for them, to serve them and our household, to teach and care for our daughter (and any future children), and to encourage my family in their growth closer to the Lord. Of that, and of the broader calling to follow the Lord in my own life, I can be sure.

Whatever God may give me to keep or may take away in relation to my business, there is always* work to be done for my family, and today that is a restful thought.

*Until He takes away me or them, hopefully a long time from now by @rysaarcher
