Here’s what I do as a Merchandising consultant and fractional CPO…

I work with brands that already have something special - a strong point of view, some momentum, and people I genuinely enjoy working with.
My role is usually to help make the product sharper, more productive, and more scalable without sanding off what made the brand interesting in the first place.

I keep the roster small on purpose and choose who I work with pretty carefully.

Let’s face it, by now we’re all used to the performance we get with Polyester. The huge shift towards Natural Activewear is exciting but theres a performance gap that no ones is talking about, and the entire industry is chasing to solve for it.

Here’s what you need to know until they do… by @ryyywood

A $1,000 Margiela tabi and a set of Bridgestone tires have more in common than you’d think

🐑Merino might be one of the best natural performance fibers in the world, but that doesn’t mean more merino makes better activewear.
The shift toward natural activewear is forcing brands to solve a much harder problem: how do you get the benefits of merino without giving up the stretch and durability we’ve gotten used to from synthetics?

🎯Here’s what you need to know before you buy.

You’re already seeing vintage activewear showing up everywhere for Women, but not much on the Men’s side yet. The Y2K aesthetic has been dominant for most of this trend, but I don’t see that translating as well for Men - it’s the 90’s aesthetic that feels more widely appealing for Men. taken in Venice by @ryyywood

THIS IS NOT NEW. The Deck Shoe has been around for 100 years.

Trends are cyclical - and while this silhouette obviously never went away, theres more juice being poured on the classic deck/skate shoe than the past several years. But there is a key silhouette detail that I’m most excited about, here’s how/where to find it…

Top Deck Shoe picks for summer. Keep this saved for when the time’s right.

Pro tip - go with color to add instant juice to an otherwise lackluster fit. by @ryyywood

Everlast might be the most overlooked brand in the vintage activewear trend right now. It’s a billion-dollar sportswear brand sitting in plain sight, and nobody’s talking about it.
I’ve been wearing it for 20 years, both as a boxer and a vintage collector. And after running countless brand revival projects in my career, my gut tells me this is a Sleeping Giant.

Natural activewear isn’t a bubble. But the gold rush around it is getting crowded fast.

Going into 2027, “natural” can’t be the entire reason an activewear brand exists.
The material can get a brand some early traction, but It still needs a compelling reason to exist beyond the fiber story.

The winners will be the ones you’d still want if you deleted “natural” from the headline. by @ryyywood

Had a fun time speaking at @keen ‘s annual company meeting on the intersection of outdoor + fashion.

Given the recent Approach shoe craze, here’s some high-level thoughts on how Keen can maintain its relevancy in fashion. taken in Portland, Oregon by @ryyywood

Natural and Vintage Activewear is all I can wear right now at the studio. Y2K has taken over on the female side but I’m all about the 90’s grit. Inspired by old NFL practice fits, Mike Tyson training in his prime - with no polyester in sight.

A millennial on a stage explaining Gen Z. I accept the risk🥸

But every brand should be aware of this shift right now - younger consumers aren’t just buying brands anymore. They’re buying products that give them a stronger sense of identity.
