So happy that we had another engaging and I think successful panel with my amazingly experienced co-panelists Tahreem Kalam and @gregsiskind talking immigration law firm tech stacks!

(We had a lot of people in the room for 10:30 am 😂 — plus lots joining virtually, hence the camera setup in the first photo!)

Here’s a short summary for those who couldn’t join. Would love to hear thoughts/questions in the comments:

🔹 “Tech stack” simply means ALL the tech your firm uses: case management, forms software, research tools, marketing platforms, billing, VoIP, and more.

🔹 MUST-HAVES included immigration case management, email, and strong client communication tools. Your systems should help you file correctly, track deadlines, avoid malpractice-level mistakes, and make sure clients actually feel heard and informed.

🔹 NICE-TO-HAVES included AI tools to improve efficiency, marketing software (though I’m biased and think that’s a must-have!), and meeting recording/transcription apps.

🔹 If any tool touches sensitive client data, especially AI, firms need to understand how that data is stored, whether it can be used to train models, and what privacy/security protections apply.

🔹 I also think every lawyer should spend $100-200 on a good mic and basic lighting for virtual calls. And, per Greg’s recommendation, make sure you have fast Internet. It’s a small investment that makes you look and sound much more professional to clients.

One thing I didn’t mention on the panel, but I’ll add here: in today’s compliance environment, I think compliance software is also a MUST-HAVE.

If your firm handles H-1Bs and PERMs, something like LaborLess can help make sure your LCA posting, PAF, and PERM NOF processes are consistent, documented, and audit-ready, rather than relying on emails, spreadsheets, and manual follow-up.

My passport is upside down, and my (now short!) hair is a bit of a mess, but I’m actually excited to head to Atlanta today for the @ailanational Fall conference - one of the biggest immigration lawyer conferences of the year! 😄

This conference is kind of a special one because it actually has a technology track in addition to the usual business immigration and family immigration sessions.

Because of that, a lot of tech focused, immigration lawyers attend, which is pretty cool.

LaborLess won’t have a booth, but I *am* speaking on a panel about immigration law firm technology, and you know I’ll be sharing a bit about our updated LCA and PERM NOF compliance and audit features….

(Check us out - http://www.laborless.io)

We’re covering virtually every edge case because, when it comes to compliance, going deep is far more important than going wide in my opinion!

Looking forward to a bit of sunny, Southern weather and hospitality, and for those who won’t be in attendance, do check back in this week for a couple recaps of the conference!

Who else is going to be in Atlanta this week for the @ailanational Fall Conference? Because I’m excited to both speak on a panel with the esteemed @gregsiskind and Tahreem Kalam, and also co-host a Michelin-star sommelier wine tasting and dinner the night before the conference alongside Kim Humphreys at @bydcash, with the support of our friends at @eimmigration_by_cerenade!!

Here’s a bit of info about both:

🍷We're co-hosting a dinner featuring a Michelin-star sommelier, and we have about a dozen spots left. So if you’ll be at the conference and want to join us the night before, please register here: https://luma.com/3hudo2iq?tk=z28sNe

🎙️ I’ll be speaking on and moderating a session called "The Immigration Tech Stack: Building Your Modern Practice Toolbox" which will be a practical session for solo and small immigration firms trying to figure out what technology they actually need, what they can skip for now, and how to make their tools work together without creating more chaos.

A few things we’ll cover:

🔹 What a “tech stack” really means for an immigration law firm

🔹 Why firms should start with the work, not the technology

🔹 How to think about must-haves versus nice-to-haves

🔹 Where AI fits, and where it does NOT replace case management, quality control, security, or attorney judgment
.
.
.
Thank you to AILA for the opportunity to speak and moderate this important panel, and to Greg and Tahreem for taking the time to share their knowledge!

Who else is going to Atlanta?

🚨 BREAKING H-1B NEWS 🚨 Today (Oct. 8, 2026), Labor Secretary Keith Sonderling and Vice President JD Vance announced an immediate suspension of the Permanent Labor Certification (PERM) program for several major global tech and IT outsourcing firms.

( Link here: https://news.bloomberglaw.com/daily-labor-report/us-suspends-visa-program-for-tech-firms-including-microsoft-2 )

---- WHO IS IMPACTED? ----

- Global IT consulting companies: Cognizant, Infosys, Tata, Wipro, HCL, and Capgemini
- A few US tech companies: Microsoft and Adobe (only due to active federal investigations)

---- WHAT DOES THIS MEAN? ----

DOL has halted all new and pending PERM filings for these specific employers. While H-1B visas remain valid, the pathway to permanent residency (green cards) through these specific employers is frozen indefinitely, presumably until the government is satisfied that these employers have made certain changes.

This is all while a handful of US tech company CEOs are going to receive award today by the president, including Microsoft.

You might also notice that a handful of them were also born outside the US, like the CEO of Tesla / SpaceX Elon Musk (South Africa), CEO of Microsoft Satya Nadella (India), CEO of Nvidia Jensen Huang (Taiwan) and CEO of AMD Lisa Su (also Taiwan).

---- MY THOUGHTS ----

It's hard to say where the government is leaning.

On the one hand, they continue to come down hard on SKILLED immigration, from OPT to H-1B and now PERM.

On the other hand, the federal government is celebrating and supporting tech growth in the US, especially AI advancement.

I personally don't believe that skilled immigration into the US will ever shut off.

I *DO* believe, however, that compliance is only getting tougher.

That's why we're continuing to double down with LaborLess, building more features for edge cases, incorporating AI, and more.

It's also why we launched PERM NOF posting and compliance this year.
.

.
So if you're an immigration law firm or in-house team and you'd like to explore automating H-1B and PERM NOF compliance, please reach out to me or visit our website: www.laborless.io

Brian’s career started in global mobility before many people even used the phrase. He held senior roles at Arthur Andersen and EY, and saw how companies were moving employees around the world, and how fragmented the ecosystem was across HR, tax, immigration, relocation, payroll, and more.

That gap is what eventually led Brian to found the Forum for Expatriate Management (FEM). He saw that mobility professionals needed more than vendors, conferences, or disconnected conversations. They needed a community where in-house mobility folks could learn from each other, share what was working, debate where the industry was going, and otherwise network with each other.

FEM into one of the most important global mobility communities in the world, expanding through content, events, awards, summits, and local networks before Brian eventually sold it. We’ll talk about Brian’s founder journey and his thoughts from his role as Strategic Director at Benivo.

So, here’s what we’re going to talk about:

🔹 Brian’s early life, education, and his career path across human capital and global mobility

🔹 How he founded FEM and helped build one of the most important communities in mobility

🔹 How FEM grew across the world, how Brian eventually sold it, and his third act at Benivo

🔹 His work at Benivo today, the future of global mobility, his podcast, and more!

So please join us and ask questions!

🍷 If you're an immigration lawyer connection of mine and you'll be attending the 2026 AILA Fall Conference in Atlanta this month, please join me for an intimate, private dinner and wine-tasting alongside Kim Humphreys of @bydcash at her beautiful home in Atlanta! Limited space (just 50 seats) and it's totally free for you, so if you're interested, please register at the link below!

The most exciting part is that the dinner will feature Michelin Star Sommelier @sommjuan Juan Fernando Cortes.

Juan will teach us how to find the right wine, and not necessarily the most expensive bottle, in a cellar!

He'll also conduct a blind tasting and design a 5-star dinner to complement the wine.

There are just over 30 spots remaining, so if you're interested please register at the link below.

And a huge thank you to the @eimmigration_by_cerenade team for joining us in making this event possible - their awesome team will be there as well!

🎙 On episode 156 of the GMI Rocket show, we’re joined by Kevin Andrews, Founder of KJA Law, an immigration lawyer using AI agents to build a thriving solo business immigration practice!

❤️ Huge thank you to this episode’s main sponsor, @eimmigration_by_cerenade! For 30+ years, eimmigration has helped firms manage cases, prepare forms, track deadlines, and streamline work. It’s family-run, independent, AI-powered and human-supported. Get your first month free through GMI Rocket! 👉 https://get.eimmigration.com/gmi 👈)

Kevin is a first-generation American whose mother immigrated from the Philippines. His first real exposure to immigration came as a child, when his babysitter stole his mother’s green card and threatened to call INS unless she paid $300. That story helped shape the questions that would eventually lead him into immigration law.

Kevin went on to build a career in business immigration, focusing on employment-based cases like EB-1, NIW, O-1, H-1B, etc. After many years in practice, he launched KJA Law, where he now combines deep immigration experience with AI workflows, automation, and wisdom to use these tools responsibly.

What makes Kevin’s story so interesting is how he uses AI. We’ll talk about structured workflows, AI “recipes,” machine-readable filings, government use of AI, and why immigration lawyers should think less about magic prompts and more about context and process.

So, here’s what we’re going to talk about:

🔹 Kevin’s family immigration story, his early life, and his mother’s green card almost getting stolen

🔹 His path into business immigration and why he fell in love with employment-based work

🔹 How he launched KJA Law and built a practice supported by AI agents, workflows, & automation

🔹 Kevin’s thoughts on AI, government adjudications and more!

So please join us, ask questions and leave comments!

This The Times Of India article is another reminder that the Trump administration is actively, and insanely, going after H-1B compliance, specifically with DOL involvement. Why do I care? Because I’m a former immigration lawyer who focused on H-1Bs, and now I’m the founder of LaborLess, software focused exclusively on LCA, Public Access File, and PERM NOF compliance automation.

Here's the article: https://lnkd.in/g2fj9_9N --- A few takeaways from it:

- The administration is reportedly expanding its foreign labor visa fraud crackdown.

- DOL Inspector General Anthony D’Esposito reportedly said the foreign labor visa program could look “very different” a year from now.

- The message was direct: “We have handcuffs ready.”

- We do not know how far this goes beyond Project Firewall, but DOL-related H-1B scrutiny clearly is not going away.

It drives me nuts thinking that in this environment there are immigration law firms that handle H-1Bs and PERMs but do NOT use LaborLess... what are they actually doing for LCA posting, PAFs, and PERM NOF compliance?

❌ Are they still sending LCA notices to clients to print and post in the office?

❌ Are they emailing notices to remote employees and asking them to print and post at home?

❌ Are they monitoring whether postings actually happen?

❌ Are they creating PAFs within one business day and maintaining them correctly?

❌ Are they doing the same with PERM Notices of Filing?

And for H-1B employers: you should be asking your immigration law firm what software and processes they use for LCA posting, Public Access Files, and PERM NOF compliance.

That's we have almost 2,500 H-1B petitioners on the LaborLess platform, many as direct clients and many through our immigration law firm users.

✅✅ So, if your immigration firm handles H-1Bs or PERMs and does not have real automation around LCA posting, PAFs, or PERM NOFs, please reach out to me here in the DMs or through our website: http://www.laborless.io

And if you are an employer that wants to own this directly instead of hoping your law firm has it covered, reach out as well.

Writing this post (while awaiting my delayed flight from Charlotte to NYC) in huge appreciation for the Charlotte Metro Area Relocation Council (CMARC) for inviting me to be the keynote this week. A bit about my presentation...

The title was "Outside the frame: think fast, speak boldly".

But rather than being a keynote "speech" it was actually a keynote workshop.

And I did that by tying in improv games - some that included just a few folks on stage, while other included EVERYONE at their seats - into the presentation.

Because talking *at* an audience about how to become better speakers, how to be more creative, how to handle client and colleague conversations, is way less impactful when it's a lecture.

But when you play interactive improv games, which happen to be a lot of fun, that incorporate those skills, and THEN discuss the impact on work...

THAT'S when attendees walk away from a keynote actually having learned something, first-hand

Thanks again to everyone there for chatting with me throughout the day, inviting me for drinks or dinner, and generally making me feel so welcome.

I love presenting to our industry - it allows me to tie in my experience as an immigration lawyer and now entrepreneur(www.laborless.io and www.gmirocket.com) with my theater and public speaking experience... what a blessing!

So if anyone else is interested in keynote presentations for your local chapter, your company-wide event, etc., please let me know!!

Who is going to this year's AILA Fall Conference in Atlanta on 10/15?? Because I'm partnering with Kim Humprheys from @bydcash to co-host a beautiful evening dinner party on the 14th, with a Michelin Star Sommelier, to learn about (and drink 😆) great wine in a non-stuffy way, and enjoy a delicious meal together before the conference. There are about 50 spots... WHO'S INTERESTED? (It's free!)

And any fellow immigration startups or service providers who will attend want to join in on supporting this event as a sponsor??

Leave a comment or DM me, please!

Oh and this photo - took it in Milan in 2022, my first time in Italy.

I rarely went out for Italian food before, even in NYC, because I thought getting pasta at a restaurant was silly.

How wrong I was... I learned in Italy that good pasta, and I mean REALLY good pasta, exists, and is incredible. I ate more than I can convey (apparently this is common in Italy lol)

I also learned about how amazing wine can be :)

Which is why I'm so excited to help put together an event where our immigration attorney peers can have a truly high level event with a master sommelier.

It'll be fun, intimate, but not stuffy.

Instead of a basic meetup at a bar, we wanted to do something special.

Who's interested?

Let me know!!

I know this isn’t new, but truly the beauty of being your own boss is owning your time. Doesn’t mean you work LESS, you just get to do it on your own time.

For me that means I can spend a month staying with my grandma in the Middle East.

We have breakfast, lunch and dinner, together, go to the beach (when I can convince her!), and generally do stuff around the house.

Around 4pm when it hits 9am I start taking phone calls, checking emails, etc.

A break for dinner and then back to meetings.

I’m still busy, believe me.

But I own the busy-ness, and I’m genuinely forever grateful for that.

Grateful to my clients for not batting an eye either… thanks for making it easy to spend some extra time with my grandma 😊🙏
