This is a text from a postcard that has been sitting on my desk for a while. Every 8th of March I reflect on my views on feminism, and every year my answer evolves.

This time the question came from a friend who asked in our chat: “What does femininity even mean in 2026?”. She has her own business, a kid, a family, still manages to party, take care of everyone around, and somehow still find time for herself. “Sometimes I’m doing so much that I’m not even sure there is anything left of that ‘femininity’ in me.”

I started asking the same question to people around me. Most smiled, and then got stuck. Me too.

On one hand, everything seems clear. We live in a time when women can do anything: work, earn, move countries, build careers, (not) have children, stay single, leave relationships, start over. Most women I know live exactly like this. They are independent, often not weaker than their partners. Often the opposite.

At the same time, femininity feels less clear than ever. It used to be defined from the outside: softness, care, beauty, patience, a role, a place. Now the role is gone, but the word stayed.

Femininity can be freedom / different kind of strength / not even gendered at all. Women have traits once called masculine, while men openly show things once called feminine.

We don’t need permission or protection anymore. We can do everything ourselves. But that doesn’t mean we stopped wanting closeness, attraction, or difference.

Posters on feminist strikes scream EQUALITY. And when it comes to rights, money, freedom — sure. It’s just that relationships don’t work like political slogans. Being able to handle everything alone doesn’t mean we want to.
We are used to being strong, but sometimes we want to be with someone next to whom we don’t have to be.

Women write the future.
Maybe that’s why I like this.

It sounds powerful, but not as an attributed dogma. As femininity in 2026 is not a role, definition, or a fixed idea, but a balance each of us keeps rewriting for herself.

I don’t have excuses that work with them… Both are doing HIIT every morning with their body weight for the last 3 years and gym/trainings since my age, and even more since they’ve had me 🧡
