For the past fifty years, photographer Nancy Shia (@nancyshia) has witnessed a changing D.C. from her Columbia Road window. “I couldn’t have better television,” she said. Capturing tenant organizing, statehood activism, and rapid gentrification has taught her that change comes for those who keep fighting — and in this moment, that fight is more important than ever, she tells Serena Zets (@s.zets). “There are a lot more comrades in the resistance now than there were before. In all my time in D.C., I’ve never felt such a critical time to get so many people resisting fascism. Imagine if we don’t resist it? How horrible would it be? Who would we become?” Read more from Zets’ profile — and see more of Shia’s photos — at the link in bio. (📷: Slide 1: Tracy Meehleib, All others: @nancyshia) Black and white portrait of Nancy Shia, standing in front of a poster that says '700,000 strong' 'MAKE DC A STATE' and the DC outline and flag.
