With a background in sewing that spans back to childhood and a degree and years experience in Costume Design, Mandee of Sacral & Irie Designs specializes in bringing storied worlds to life. From book creations to the custom garments they’re crafting for several of our attending cosplayers, their work is all about story-driven detail.

I’ve been quietly chipping away at digital sketching ever since I picked up my iPad last fall, but every so often, a concept hits that demands to be brought into the real world.
Working with leathers and vinyls isn’t typically my primary domain, so the execution on this piece had learning curves. The back isn’t perfect, and the process definitely pushed me out of my usual comfort zone, and honestly? That’s the best part. I frustratingly love the messy, rewarding phase of tackling new materials and refining the craft. As artists, if we aren’t constantly experimenting and stumbling through new techniques, we aren’t really growing. And it can be scary and intimidating and overwhelming at times to do that. But it’s so important.

In the oldest quarter of the city, where ivy climbed older than memory and lanterns burned with borrowed stars, there stood a little atelier whose windows shimmered as though dawn and dusk had forgotten which hour they belonged to. Moonlight lingered reluctantly upon the panes, and stars shone there even on the darkest of nights.
Some swore the gowns inside were woven from starlight and moonbeams, pulled straight from the sky. Others insisted they were stitched from dreams. Neither was entirely wrong.
No one could quite agree where she’d come from. Only that, sooner or later, everyone who needed her somehow found the little atelier
