Based at Coffee Origin | Sacred Mill's Next Chapter

For a while now, we've dreamed of being based at a Coffee Origin—our passion for connecting directly with farmers and producers has been the driving force behind Sacred Origins. After opening our café in Kenya, we kept asking ourselves—what's next for Sacred Mill?

Since day one, our mission has always been clear: connecting beautiful coffee from its origin to the EU. Four years ago, we embarked on this journey with that vision, and today, we stand with utmost pride, slowly achieving what we set out to do.

You’ll be seeing more of us at Coffee Origins as we continue our commitment to impactful partnerships with producers. šŸŽ‰

Meet Mama Olivia—our first woman farmer partner for 2025! She owns 6,000 trees on her beautiful 10-acre farm, where she shares a home with her husband. Most of her plants are Ruiru 11, and we are beyond excited to work with her to bring her incredible coffee to Europe.

Europe, get ready to experience Mama Olivia's coffee in 2025!

Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to make coffee future-proof and sustainable, one farmer at a time.

Back in 2022, in a little café in Taormina, Sicily, a shared moment over dark Italian espresso and a local pastry sparked a love for floral, chocolatey dessert notes.

Years later, I set out to recreate that memory through coffee, pairing a Rwandan natural with a washed Ethiopian to bring together delicate florals, chocolate and the softness of a beautiful milky espresso.

It took time, but that little memory became Red Rum - Floral.

A little piece of a memory, a lot of love, and a creation inspired by my favourite person. 🌺 Back in stock now. taken in Sacred Mill Coffee Roasters by @sacredmill.coffee

CLOSING OUT THE KENYAN COFFEE YEAR. šŸ‡°šŸ‡Ŗ

As we close out another year of coffee in Kenya, we’re feeling incredibly grateful.

Grateful for the farmers, producers, millers, station teams, cuppers, drivers, friends and all the amazing souls we’ve had the chance to work with along the way.

Coffee is never just coffee.

Behind every lot is a farm, a family, a landscape, a season and a whole lot of work. And some of the people we work with are doing far more than growing coffee. They’re keeping dairy cows, growing vegetables, keeping bees, planting trees, raising families and building farms that are becoming little ecosystems of their own.

We’re lucky to be able to play a small part in that story; whether directly or indirectly; and hopefully contribute to good things happening on the farm, year after year.

And honestly, Kenyan coffee keeps getting better.

We’re seeing more thoughtful farming, better processing, more experimentation and some seriously exciting coffees coming out of the highlands. There’s still a long way to go, but the direction is exciting, and we’re proud to be part of it.

So, to our dear guests: thank you.

Every cup you drink, every bag you take home and every Kenyan coffee you choose to enjoy with us helps us keep searching, buying, roasting and putting these coffees in front of you.

And we’re not done yet.

Over the coming weeks, expect a beautiful run of high-altitude Kenyan coffees - some juicy Naturals, beautiful PBs, expressive AAs and elegant ABs, all with their own stories to tell.

To the farmers who grow them, the people who process them, and all of you who drink them:

Asante sana. ā¤ļøšŸ‡°šŸ‡Ŗ

BURUNDI - NINGA HILL PB

One of the cleanest coffees I’ve roasted in a long time.

This Burundi, produced in collaboration with Ben from Long Miles Coffee, is incredibly delicate and tea-like, with layers of complexity and a beautiful dried-fig sweetness that lingers well after the cup.

Roasting a PB is always a little tricky. With such a small bean, heat transfer and development need to be handled with precision. Push the heat too hard and you can easily lose the delicacy; back off at the wrong moment and the coffee can go flat very quickly.

I’m genuinely happy with where we landed with this profile — clean, structured, floral and tea-like, with that beautiful fig sweetness carrying through the finish.

And there are only 30KG left.

So if you’ve enjoyed this coffee at Sacred Mill @sacredmill.ke , or you’ve been meaning to take a bag home, now’s the time.

A big thank you to Ben and the Long Miles @longmilescoffee team for the work that goes into bringing coffees like this out of Ninga Hills, and for giving us the opportunity to roast and share it.

Ninga Hills is a small community in Burundi, and it means a lot that we at Sacred Mill can indirectly contribute to the work being done there, one coffee at a time.

And finally, thank you to our guests; everyone who has ordered this coffee, enjoyed it at the bar, asked about it, and taken a bag home. taken in Sacred Mill Coffee Roasters by @sacredmill.coffee

A NEW CHAPTER - KAREN

This one has been a hell of a ride.

We started with a space, an idea, and a rather unreasonable obsession with getting every little detail right.

We worked with artisan designers, builders and craftspeople, chasing down the things that would make this place feel like ours.

Tiles from Morbi, Gujarat.
Equipment from Paris.
Ceramics from Japan.
Coffees from farms and producers across East Africa.
Small makers, big machines, countless samples, conversations, revisions, delays, headaches; and a ridiculous amount of love.

And somehow, piece by piece, we’ve brought it all together in Nairobi.

We’re finally at the point where we can say it:

Karen, we’re almost ready.

We’re working towards an opening sometime in October, and before we throw the doors open properly, we’re going to take a little breather, finish the last few details, and invite you in for a few small artisan-led events.

A chance to see the space.
Meet some of the people behind it.
Eat, drink, wander around, and experience a little of what we’ve been building.

The opening date is coming soon.

Karen, here we come.

BIZ BAZ. OUR FIRST ONE.

Our first ever Biz Baz. @bizbazevents

And honestly… what a way to start.
We came into a big space, with a big team, big plans and absolutely no idea what the weekend was going to throw at us.

And it threw a lot.
We didn’t have enough power from Biz Baz to run our equipment.
So we changed the grinder.
Then we changed the espresso machine.
Then we changed a few more things.
Half of the first day was basically spent travelling around, borrowing equipment, troubleshooting, fighting with machines, fighting with ourselves and trying to figure out how the hell we were going to serve coffee.

And this is where you remember why coffee is a community.
A family.

On Saturday morning, our cherished pals @springvalleycoffee helped us out with a grinder without even thinking twice.

Our dear friends Martin from @torchcoffee_kenya and Karim from @hikuricoffee came through and helped us with the espresso machine.
No questions.

Just people helping people.

We finally started serving at around 2:30 PM.
And then…
there was no looking back.
To everyone who came to our booth, thank you.
To everyone who bought our coffee bags, thank you.
To everyone who told us they loved our coffee, thank you.
And to those who hated it, also thank you.
We’d rather you taste it, talk about it, argue about it and have an opinion than walk past it without noticing.
And to everyone who tried the new Miso Chocolate Cookie and went back for another one…
We see you.

Most importantly, to our team, our army of Sacred Mill.

You were thrown into chaos, figured it out, adapted, fought through it and somehow still managed to smile, serve and represent us.

We’re proud of you.

Biz Baz, you were our first.
Messy.
Chaotic.
Exhausting.
Beautiful.
And exactly the kind of first experience we’ll remember.

Thank you to our coffee community.
Thank you to our guests.
Thank you to our friends.
Thank you to our team.
Until next time. ā¤ļø

Before we open the doors, we’d like you to meet some of the people who helped build what’s behind them.

As we put the final touches to our new home in Karen, we thought it was important to introduce you to the people who have been part of bringing the Sacred Mill vision to life.

Zebbie - our design mastermind. Creative, endlessly resourceful and usually the person solving the problems nobody else knows how to solve.

Kimani - who brought our glasswork to life, helping us open the space to beautiful natural daylight and making the café feel connected to the world outside.

Steven - the man behind much of our plumbing, electrical work and lighting, quietly making sure everything works the way it should.

These are just three of the many people behind Sacred Mill.

And there are more faces we want you to meet.

Because for us, people have always mattered.

Our team.
The people who build with us.
The farmers who grow for us.
The growers and producers who make what we do possible.
The hands, minds and stories behind everything that eventually reaches your table.

A space is never really built by one person.

This is Sacred Mill.

A little Scandinavian coffee house in Karen, built with many hands, many ideas and a lot of heart.

We’ll be welcoming you soon. taken in Nairobi, Kenya by @sacredmill.coffee

MY KILLSHOT STORY

Heights have always scared me.

But somewhere along the way, I decided I was done letting fear decide where I could go.

Kenya gave me the opportunity to climb higher — literally and otherwise. Rock faces, long days, exposed routes, moments where you look down and wonder what the hell you’re doing there.

And somewhere in all of that, I learned something simple:

If you’re scared, climb higher.

Life is unpredictable. We spend so much time worrying about what comes next that sometimes we forget to actually live the moment we’re in.

That’s what Killshot has come to mean to me.

It’s become my everyday coffee. Bold, naturally sweet, a little floral, but deeply chocolatey — almost like baker’s chocolate. I pull 20g in and 45g out on my La Marzocco, chasing that syrupy, creamy texture that makes the first cup of the day worth stopping for.

Coffee has always been part of my life.

But this one feels a little different.

Maybe because Killshot was born in Kenya.
Maybe because Kenya is where I learned to stop negotiating with fear.

Or maybe because some things in life are meant to be experienced while you’re right there in the moment.

This is my Killshot story.

Hello from Karen ā˜•ļø

We’re putting the final pieces together as we work through the equipment, brewing workflow and all the little details that make a coffee space feel right.

Very soon, we’ll be ready to welcome you to our new home in Karen.

Behind the scenes, we’re also working closely with farmers and producers to secure some really exciting coffee lots for the opening and beyond.

Our managers, Mourine & Tom, are already deep in planning mode; and needless to say, they’re excited. So are we. šŸ‚
