Celebrate with us at the opening event of
โ€˜Half Closed Eyeโ€™ curated by SADESIX @out.house.gallery

An intimate group exhibition bringing together artists exploring moments of transition. Featuring small works spanning drawing, assemblage, collage and painting; each artist approaches these states through their own visual language.

Reflecting on the spaces between waking and dreaming, the exhibition considers the in-between moments we salvage, fall into, return to, run away from, run towards and ultimately surrender to. It explores how these states shape our experiences, desires, memories and understanding of the world.

Including works by Akilah Chambers, Barbara Majek, Heera Gul, Ikesha Avo, Moon Hussain, Natalie Charles, Sophia Kaur Hambleton-Grey, Tanya Wilson and Tomilola Olumide.

We look forward to welcoming you to: A SADESIX SUMMER ๐Ÿฆขโœจ It will be vibrant as always!

A visualiser for Half Closed Eye; serving as a counterpart to traditional exhibition text.
A constellation of ideas, gathering references across film, fashion, photography, painting, performance, and visual culture. These fragments offer a visual entry point into the exhibitionโ€™s ideas and reflections.

A wide-ranging archive spanning African-Caribbean, East Asian, South Asian and Iranian diasporic visual cultures, with a focus on the interior lives of women of colour.

Named after our mother, Sade, we are a collective of six siblings celebrating her creative legacy through our shared vision and diverse practices across London and Nigeria. Through exhibitions, events and workshops, we foster collaboration, experimentation and community.

Weโ€™re excited to present this exhibition featuring emerging artists, many of whom previously supported our Losing a Home exhibition through facilitating or attending workshops. Itโ€™s exciting to continue this dialogue with these talented artists and explore what collective making, dreaming and building can look like.

You do the things youโ€™ve been running away from when you can because on the other side of it is usually joy and a conquering of fear. I found that at my first art workshop 'Farabale: A Storytelling Evening for Rest, Reflection & Release' hosted at Outhouse Gallery last month on August 13th during the Half Closed Eye exhibition curated by SADE Six.

Drawing from my exhibited work โ€˜Passagesโ€™ a 20 piece kiln-fired vitreous enamel tile installation on copper exploring rest and respite navigated through a period of burnout, my workshop invited participants to hold their own passage on paper with drawing materials; recalling a recent transition, translating the feeling inside it into words and personal symbols through drawing, by naming where they'd arrived.

Structured around grounding, storytelling, symbol-making and an optional sharing circle, the session aimed to offer a gentle, trauma-informed route into emotional processing through craft and language, giving participants a practical, embodied way to name and release what they were carrying, and to close with a small ritual of either keeping or letting go of what they'd made with our group.

I had the best time facilitating this workshop and in the radiance of the sun's warmth I felt at home. Thank you so much to everyone who came, spent their time, engaged, genuinely took the time to unwind and enjoy themselvesโœจ๏ธ

Thank you @SADE.Six and @Outhouse
