*Virtual Fair*
~On hiatus for 2026~
6th annual zine and craft fair featuring Sick, Disabled, Neurodivergent, and MAD artists!
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
We are sorry to announce that the SAD Fair will not be back for 2025, but we are hoping to have it back in full swing next year, with even more improvements for selected tablets and ideally less hands on technical labor for organizers. We will be sad to miss you this year, but excited to see you back next - and to see what new disabled artists emerge!

For now, you can find each organizer doing our own things here:
Megan @crayolapenguin
Ryan @brainfogdesigns
Gladys @drawinkstudio
Keiko @donutclown and @sadclownclub.shop
October @stonerzines
Ash @ashmurdock_ and @chaoscripples

So much love to everyone who has supported us thus far šŸ’›

What even IS the SAD Fair?

Well... we are a grassroots event that features ONLY sick, disabled, neurodivergent, and MAD artists. We are in our fifth year, and while originally this Fair was going to be based in the Bay Area, CA and in-person, we were one of the first (if not *the* first zine fest/craft fair) to convert to entirely virtual functions. Throughout the pandemic, we have continued to run this Fair completely virtually and even if/when the pandemic is more manageable/over, we will continue to be virtual.

We hope more fairs/fests will join us in going virtual or hosting hybrid events as it increases accessibility to a degree that nothing else can.

Our event is a week long, and including live tabling (artists getting to show their craft/merch and take questions), workshops, and (hopefully) panels/lectures on disability. We try to provide education where we can, and uplift marginalised artists.

The organising team is entirely sick, disabled, neurodivergent and/or MAD, and most of us are queer and trans/nonbinary.

We are so grateful for all the support we’ve been given, and we are so honored to be able to host this event year after year.

If you would like to financially support the SAD Fair (just because it’s virtual doesn’t mean it’s cheap!), you can d0n4te through our ko-fi, gofundme, or paypal. You can also venmo @/stonerzines with ā€œSAD Fairā€ as your note.

Lots of love! Hope this post clears up some questions about who we are and what we do.

the SAD Fair 2024 T-Shirts are here!! We are so incredibly proud of this design and all of the other ones from this year. The shirts are screen printed by Cole, @shirtsiveprinted . This and all our other merch is available on our k0fi! Every sale helps us pay for the expenses to keep the fair running!

[ID: Several slides showing the SAD Fair 2024 merch.

Slide 1: A purple T-shirt with a blue outline of a pill organizer and the words "SAD Fair 2024." Instead of the days of the week that would usually be on a pill organizer, it just says "SAD." It has a sticker of the SAD Fair logo, a sad face with x's for eyes, on the lid. Simple doodles surround the T-shirt.

Slide 2: Two stickers on a dark blue background. One depicts a wheelchair user posing in a punk, neon outfit, with the words "Looking SICK." The other is a rainbow pill organizer with the word "SAD" and the SAD Fair logo on the lid. Colorful charms surround the stickers.

Slide 3: A photo of a print showing a wheelchair user posing in a punk, neon outfit, with the words "Looking SICK" on a dark blue background.

Slide 4: Someone holding a vinyl sticker showing the 2024 SAD Fair logo, an orange with a sad face and x's for eyes, against a dark blue border. Other stickers of the same design are seen in the background.

Slide 5: Someone holding a vinyl sticker showing this years SAD Fair logo (an orange with a sad face and x's for eyes) on a square light green background with the words "Sad Fair, July 21-27 2024" written in blue lettering. Other stickers of the same design are seen in the background.

Slide 6: The SAD Fair 2024 physical tabler directory on a bright pink background. It's a small pamphlet that says "SAD Fair 2024 Tabler directory, July 21-27 2024," and has the SAD Fair orange logo (a sad face with x's for eyes).

Organizers will be on break for about 3 months before we come back in December! We will still check our Instagram DMs and be present in our Discord server, but much less frequently. You can always email us at sadzcfair@gmail.com and we will get back to you! It may take us longer as we’re all pretty burnt out from this year, but we will get back to you.

Announcements for next year’s Fair will come in January or February 2025! See you then :)

[ID: orange graphic with block text in the center that reads ā€œorganizers on breakā€ and then in smaller white text below ā€œsee you next year!ā€ The top right and bottom left corners have teal and dark blue organic shapes for design. End ID] by @sadzcf

Hi hi! Before the organizers go on break on Sept 1st, here is a big list of all of the feedback we got this year, along with some of the listed changes we will be implementing for next year.

The Fair is a lot of work, and we could really use more organizers, volunteers, and money. We love putting on this event every year, and know that we are a unique space, so we can’t wait to see everyone next year as we continue to learn and improve!

We will put out a call next year, in January or February, looking for folks interested in organizing or volunteering, so keep an eye out for that!

Community Ask: we’d love help on our image descriptions from someone with more spoons! Please comment <3 by @sadzcf

As taken from the American Association of Immunologists ā€œAugust is National Immunization Awareness Month (NIAM). This annual observance highlights the importance of getting recommended vaccines throughout your life.ā€

ID: A light brown dachshund facing away from the viewer and turning their head to stare at their butt. On their right thigh a pink heart shaped bandage. The dog although looking annoyed is quite pleased they got their shot. Around them is the words ā€œNational Immunization Monthā€ by @sadzcf

Our financial transparency post will tell you that we actually LOST money this year due to the lack of merch s4les, and that we have no other way to fund the fair other than through those s4les and d0nations. Our merch is super cute and up year round, so if you'd like to help support the fair, please check it out on our k0-fi!

[video description: An popular audio plays in the background, saying "Opening a shop, Pats!" "Oh, what are you gonna sell?" "Oh just GORGEOUS things, you know." "Lovely!" "GORGEOUS, tasteful, little stylish, little, GORGEOUS-"

Video clips of SAD Fair merch play, including our purple SAD Fair 2024 pill organizer shirt, rainbow pill organizer sticker, looking sick sticker, and orange and square logo stickers. Text over top of it reads, "The SAD Fair actually LOST money on merch this year... ...which is a shame because it's so cute! If you saw our last post, you know we do this for free... ...and rely on merch and donations to fund the fair. Our merch is still available on our k0-fi for those who wish to contribute!"

Happy Monday! Here is a look at the SAD Fair’s finances from 4/1/24 to 7/31/24. We still have some expenses for the rest of the year, but this is the bulk of it!

Thank you so so much to everyone who d0nated, spons0red, or bought merch. We would not be able to run this fair without you!

Our merch is up year-round, and you can always send us $$ through one-time d0nat”0ns or by subscription on k0f”

We are a small group of sick and disabled artists who have a passion for our community, but we do not have money or resources ourselves. We hope that this post gives some clarity on the expenses of a virtual Fair and how it’s run!

We want to know what you think!

We have two feedback forms linked in our bio for both vendors and attendees to fill out. We love getting feedback each year, and it helps us to know how to improve the Fair for next year. So please let us know what you thought of this year! Positive comments and constructive criticism are very welcome.

If you want us to follow up with you on your feedback, you MUST provide us with contact information. These forms are anonymous and don’t collect email addresses or anything - so if you request a response or follow up and do not provide your name and contact info, we will be unable to follow up.

Later this month, we will make a post with a summary of the feedback received so far, and the changes we will be making for next year based on the suggestions given. We will not publish names or direct quotes from the feedback forms - all original responses will only be viewed by organisers.

Thank you so much! Hope to see everyone next year at the further improved SAD Fair šŸ’›

Miss your chance to check out the fair? Tabler Directories are still available in our ko-fi shop! Get a printed half-page zine that features all of this year’s vendors. $4 physical copy, free digital download! (Link in bio)

ID: 3 photos of the tabler directory, a half-page pamphlet with white printer paper. The first pic is a close up of the notes section. The second is the cover page which says ā€œTabler Directory - SAD fair 2024, July 21-27, 2024, sadfair.comā€, and the orange logo. The last slide is a close up of a few vendors listed with their logo/photo, a short bio, and their social media handles, and website. by @sadzcf

While the Fair might be over, we still have merch for sale! Stickers, prints, t-shirts, and a physical tabler directory! Merch is up year-round, and sales really really help us with funding for the next year. We still have a good amount of t-shirts, size XS-5XL, and plenty of stickers so you can show you attended!

Link is in our bio :)

Thank you everyone for such a wonderful Fair! We’ve had 45+ vendors and so so many attendees! Our site reached 3.3K visits and 15K pageviews!

Please check back in during the next few weeks as we have a couple opportunities for feedback, our merch is still for sale, and we’ll be posting a few statistical transparency reports!

Organizers will be taking a much needed break starting in September, and our page will be less active - so please be patient with us if you message or email! We may take a little longer to respond.

Dates for next year will be announced in January 2025! See you then šŸ’›
