🚨 Keeping Kids Safe is My Life’s Mission! 🚨

Hi, I’m Holly-ann Martin OAM, and for over 35 years, I’ve been on a mission to educate, empower, and protect children from sexual abuse. 💙

Too many children suffer in silence, not knowing how to speak up or who to turn to. That’s why I founded Safe4Kids—to give parents, teachers, and childcare educators the tools and confidence to teach children about body safety in a way that is empowering, not scary.

💡 My goal? To make child abuse prevention education as common as teaching kids to cross the road safely. Because ALL children have the right to feel safe, all of the time.

Through my online courses, books, and training, I help adults start these crucial conversations early—before harm happens.

👩‍👧 Parents & Carers—Learn how to talk to your kids about their bodies, consent, and online safety.
📚 Teachers—Discover how to weave protective education into your classroom.
🏡 Childcare Educators—Help even the youngest children understand their right to safety.

🔗 Join me in this mission! Explore my resources at safe4kids.com.au

💙 Because protecting children is EVERYONE’S responsibility. Will you help me spread the message?

This video was filmed when I was inducted into the Western Australia Women's Hall of Fame back in 2016.

I've been reflecting on what I've achieved in 2022, and I am ready to start 2023 with the same passion for helping create a world where children feel safe.

With your help in sharing the information I share, I believe we can make a difference and create a safer world for children.

Will you help me? by @safe4kids

We need to teach our children that their bodies are their own and that they should always feel comfortable with how they’re treated. By discussing unwanted touching and consent, we can help them understand what’s acceptable and what’s not. 🛡️

📚 My book bundle helps parents tackle these important conversations, ensuring kids feel safe, confident, and protected. Let’s keep our children safe together!

Teachers play a key role in child safety.

Children need more than rules. They need clear language, practical skills and trusted adults who know how to respond.

The Safe4Kids Online Teacher Course gives primary school staff practical guidance on:

• Body safety and consent
• Early Warning Signs
• Feelings and emotional literacy
• Safety Teams and help-seeking
• Safe and unsafe secrets
• Exposure to pornography
• Responding appropriately to disclosures

Protective Education works best when children hear the same clear safety messages at school and at home.

This course gives teachers the knowledge and confidence to teach child safety in an age-appropriate way and respond when a child needs help.

When a child tells you they have been abused, your response matters.

What you say in those first few minutes affects whether a child feels heard, believed and safe.

If a child discloses abuse:

• Stay calm and listen.
• Believe them.
• Thank them for telling you.
• Reassure them they have done the right thing by speaking up.
• Use their words. Avoid putting words into their mouth.
• Do not ask leading or investigative questions.
• Do not make promises about keeping the information secret.
• Explain you need to tell people whose job is to help keep children safe.
• Write down what the child said as soon as possible, using their exact words where possible.
• Follow your organisation’s child protection procedures and reporting requirements.
• Take immediate action if the child is in danger.

One of the most important things you might say is:

“I’m glad you told me. I believe you. You have done the right thing by telling me.”

Adults need to prepare for these conversations before a disclosure happens.

I have created a poster with practical guidance on responding to a child who discloses abuse.

"You can tell me anything, and nothing you ever tell me will stop me loving you."

These simple words can have a profound impact on a child's wellbeing. When children know they are loved unconditionally, they're more likely to share their worries, celebrate their successes, ask for help, and navigate life's challenges with confidence.

Creating environments where children feel safe, heard, and respected helps build resilience, self-esteem, emotional intelligence, and a strong sense of belonging. Our partnership with Safe4Kids supports this approach through our Protective Education Program, helping children develop confidence in their voice, trust in their feelings, and the understanding that there are trusted adults on their Safety Team ready to listen and support them.

Because every child deserves to feel and be safe.

🗣️ Expanding children’s feelings vocabulary is key to empowering them 🗣️

When kids have the words to express their emotions, they can communicate when something doesn’t feel right. Teaching them to name their feelings is a crucial step in protective behaviours education—it helps them speak up if they ever feel unsafe.

Let’s give our kids the tools they need to express themselves clearly and confidently.

🎉 Our Feelings Card, Poster, and Bingo Game are perfect for teaching kids about emotions in a fun and engaging way! Start building their emotional vocabulary today.
