🇨🇦 Dear Canadian artists,

There is real money available to help you create, record, tour, market and build but the application will not write itself.

I know the business side can feel overwhelming, especially when you are already writing, rehearsing, performing, posting, working another job and trying to remain a functioning human being.

But avoiding the business of your art does not protect your creativity. It leaves your creativity carrying the entire financial weight of your career.

YOU DO NOT NEED TO BECOME A CORPORATE MACHINE.
You do need to build an ecosystem capable of holding the work you want to make.

Choose one recurring block of time every week. Put it in your calendar. Research one program. Update one document. Build one budget. Ask one question.

A grant is never guaranteed. But refusing to apply guarantees you will not receive it.

Dates and programs can change. Always confirm the current guidelines, eligibility and eligible activity dates directly with the funder before applying.

Save this. Send it to a friend who keeps saying, “I really should look into grants.”

Spotify Wrapped is fun.
But for most artists, it doesn’t reflect financial safety at all.
It reflects survival IN SPITE of the high numbers.

Behind every “top song” is a human being paying for recording, touring, marketing, therapy, gear, and time often while working multiple jobs just to stay afloat.

At Safe Harbour, we believe artists deserve:

• Fair compensation
• Protection from AI exploitation
• Transparency in streaming economics
• Systems that value humans over data

Celebrating listening is only meaningful if the people creating the work can actually live.

Support artists directly when you can.

Buy the ticket.
Buy the merch.
Share the song.
Advocate for policy that protects creators.

I will never forget my very first coaching class. We were learning about boundaries, and everyone else seemed to understand what they were.

I was 40 years old, sitting in a virtual classroom with my hand raised, needing someone to explain them to me. (Again and again)

I genuinely could not believe that I had the right, simply because I was a human being, to set a boundary. To say no. To decide what I would and would not accept.

That understanding changed my life.

This is why I share things like this. Not because every framework will resonate with everyone, but because sometimes one idea gives language to something you have lived your entire life without knowing how to name.

And I’m telling you, that can be life changing stuff.

So save this one. Come back to it when you have time. And ask yourself these questions (as creatives you might find it easier to write them down).

Where am I in my journey right now?

What pattern am I finally ready to see?

And what might change if I stopped abandoning myself along the way?

The future of music won’t be decided by whether AI exists.

It will be decided by what we refuse to sacrifice for it.

I believe people will become hungrier for real voices, lived stories and genuine human connection. But artists were never meant to navigate this changing industry alone.

After several powerful conversations this week, the need for community has never felt clearer.

In the new year, I’ll be offering retreats, group programs and a few spaces for one-on-one work.

The future of music is still being written.

Let’s keep humans at the centre of it.

A little happiness for your feed today 💛

Jonathan Thai, a 17-year-old triathlete from Georgia who started a nonprofit to help more kids get bikes and learn how to ride them.

So far, his project has raised $30,000, secured 400 donated bicycles, distributed 500 helmets, and hosted free bike clinics for kids. It’s now growing beyond Georgia, with plans to bring the project to Vietnam next year.

One young person saw a need in his community and decided to do something about it. And now hundreds of kids have a little more freedom, fun, and possibility.

The world is heavy sometimes. Here’s a reminder that kindness is everywhere.

Enough is enough.

We cannot look away while people come forward with allegations like these. Stories are surfacing around the world because we have had ENOUGH and deserve to be heard, supported and taken seriously.

I know two women who have shared their stories with me. One is my best friend. I believe them.

We need to stand with survivors and demand accountability. This behaviour cannot keep being ignored or allowed to continue.

For World Mental Health Day, a reminder that strength doesn’t mean you have to keep carrying everything.

You can be proud of what you’ve made it through and still want things to feel lighter. You’re allowed to ask for help, set something down, or choose a different way forward before you hit your breaking point.

You don’t have to prove how much more you can take. It’s a difficult industry. You don’t have to navigate it alone.
