What a great way to conclude the PDN Training Tour 2026, 2 days of teaching at the Liberal Gun Club Annual conference!

It was great to see some good friends again and meet new members of the club. The classes went very well and everyone came away better prepared and with a clear understanding of the work they'll have to do at home to continue to improve their skillset. The Carbine class was particularly fun and eye opening for all the students.
The drill is called Volume of Fire, to help the students find their most efficient string of fire. It's also a total blast! 😁

Another positive was all the interest about the LGC instructor development course and the new Defensive Shooting Instructor development course we are preparing to roll out at Progressive Defense Training. Stay tuned! by @saferfasterdefense

Most training focuses on speed. But speed without context is just fast, not reliable. The research is clear: skill transfer depends on action fidelity, or how well your training environment matches the real-world demands.

Isolated practice creates rigid patterns that fail when the situation changes. Think of it like learning to drive only on a straight, empty highway. You can go fast, but the moment you hit a curve, an oil patch, or rain, your skills freeze because you never learned to adapt with car control and skid recovery.

Your brain wires responses to the specific cues it sees. If those cues are static, your responses will be static too. For you, this means the gap between your range performance and your street reality is not a skill gap. It is a context gap.

The solution is not more reps. It is more variety. Your next session should be messy, unpredictable, and demanding of your attention, not just your hands. Save this to remind yourself that context is the key to transfer.

Save this post. Scenario variety is the only way to build transferable skills. Share with a training partner who needs to hear this.

Personal Defense Network Training Tour was live this past weekend with an awesome 3 day event from the Community Defense course series. We went through Intuitive Defensive Shooting Fundamentals for Pistol and Carbine, Small Unit Tactics, intro to CQB, some night shooting and some shooting around vehicles considerations. Add the great company and a warm campfire for a truly memorable time. by @saferfasterdefense

Here are a few more pics from the PDN Tour Small Unit Tactics and Designated Marksman class last weekend. There was a lot of learning during the 2 day course, not just about skills and tactics but also about each student/weapon capacity and limitations. So we all have a lot of homework to do!
The Lowa boots performed very well, kept me dry and comfortable through the rain and scrambling up and down those hills! by @saferfasterdefense

Small Unit Tactics and Designated Marksman class is going well. Braving a little rain our intrepid students are progressing nicely through the curriculum. Lots of learning and good times. Join the Personal Defense Network Training Tour at the link in bio. by @saferfasterdefense

We are getting some gear ready for this weekend Personal Defense Network Training Tour class. Small Unit Tactics and Designated Marksman curriculum will see us starting to integrate drones for reconnaissance/surveillance. I'm looking forward to learning new skills this weekend!
Once again @frog.pro gear shines for its quality & design. Turns out, their Modular Task Bag can be set up to carry a drone quite nicely. by @saferfasterdefense
