Armed Home Defense Tactics course today to finish up the 2026 PDN Training Tour. This course is about half classroom and half range. It includes a chance for students to experiment with different gear and get a clear understanding of how the concepts apply to them their home and their families.

The video clip is one of the students coming through a live-fire simulation of barricading, arming (from a Stopbox quick access safe), making their 911 call and then actually needing to shoot a threat that makes it into the room.

Most training focuses on speed. But speed without context is just fast, not reliable. The research is clear: skill transfer depends on action fidelity, or how well your training environment matches the real-world demands.

Isolated practice creates rigid patterns that fail when the situation changes. Think of it like learning to drive only on a straight, empty highway. You can go fast, but the moment you hit a curve, an oil patch, or rain, your skills freeze because you never learned to adapt with car control and skid recovery.

Your brain wires responses to the specific cues it sees. If those cues are static, your responses will be static too. For you, this means the gap between your range performance and your street reality is not a skill gap. It is a context gap.

The solution is not more reps. It is more variety. Your next session should be messy, unpredictable, and demanding of your attention, not just your hands. Save this to remind yourself that context is the key to transfer.

Save this post. Scenario variety is the only way to build transferable skills. Share with a training partner who needs to hear this.

Repost from @walkthetalkus

September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month. At WTTA, we believe prevention starts upstream, before someone is in crisis.

That means building trust, sharing practical resources, improving mental health care for gun owners, and creating space for honest conversations around firearms and mental health.

This month, we will be sharing resources you can use, save, and pass along to someone who may need them.

Learn more at wtta.org. And if you or someone you know needs immediate support, call or text 988.

The StopBox WARD has proven to be a useful quick access staging device. Designed to be mounted to a sturdy vertical surface, it presents a staged firearm quickly as soon as it is opened, without the danger of it simply falling out of the box.

I’ve gotten more familiar with the full line of products from @stopboxusa this year, since they’ve joined us as PDN Training Tour Sponsors. Many students have commented over the years that they love the idea of keyless quick access, but don’t trust the various electronic / high tech options. These units are 100% mechanical.

New footage from the restaurant showing the spree killer AND the off duty ID Trooper. The trooper shows excellent compressed ready position while moving past bystanders and extended shooting position when engaging the killer.

Jordan Salinas is turning out to be a solid ambassador for Responsible Gun Ownership. I applaud him for speaking out articulately and clearly about the event.
And, kudos to ABC for their coverage of the story.

What have I said in the past about engage a spree killer with a gun and the legitimacy of a “Psychological Stop”?

I tried something new… instead of re-typing a summary of what I’ve taught over the years with a link to two to a relevant article or video, I decided to let AI summarize… scroll through the images to read what it had to say about what I’ve said in social media, public speaking engagements, published works and news interviews. It did a pretty good job, I think.

Additional Info not clear in the AI Summary:

In our APH and other courses, we often let students try shooting at torso sized targets out to “unreasonable distances” 80-100 yards, depending on the setting. We let people see what they are capable of under controlled conditions and imagine trying to apply those shooting skills under stress. We talk about the importance of knowing your background and, yes, the fact that there is an Exception to the Rule in regard to shooting without a 100% expectation of getting a hit towards a physiological stop in some of these situations.

Last time I checked the data, well over 50% of what we would truly consider “spree killings” were stopped when Good Guys fought back (with or without guns) and the threat ran away or took themselves out.

I’ve used and talked about the Stop Box AR Chamber lock for many years, it’s an awesome product for a staged AR. More recently, as part of their support for the 2026 PDN Training Tour, I’ve had a chance to experiment with and evaluate the version they make for shotguns. It is just as solid, fast and reliable.

These quick-release devices prevent Unauthorized Use of a firearm while allowing quick access to authorized users when a firearm is needed. Like all the other @stopboxusa products, it is 100% mechanical… no batteries, no charging…. and no Keys!

All gun owners have a responsibility to prevent unauthorized use of their firearms, even the ones staged for defense. If you rely on a 12g shotgun to protect yourself & your family, this product is worth taking a look at.
