MAINS PAR CŒUR/HÄNDER VID HJÄRTAT

In the manner and spirit of children, the performance Mains par Cœur pays tribute to the complexity of children’s games and to the spontaneous physical connections that arise on playgrounds. This 30‑minute performance is intended for all ages and can be presented both indoors and outdoors.
In an atmosphere filled with lively sounds, the dance grows progressively. We fill the space like one single team, clapping our hands and singing in unison. The choreography unfolds within a landscape of colors and shapes on the floor, inspired by playgrounds. Guided by the endless desire to reinvent the rules of the game, we imagine new meeting points where rhythms, voices and movements intertwine.

Do we know the game by heart? Do we have it on the tip of our tongues?

The performance also carries an educational dimension, centered on cooperation, memory, and exchanges between generations and languages. Through play, it connects diverse audiences and brings the mixing of languages into motion. “The game” is performed by two dancers, Maya Giraudet (France) and Saga Ivéus Wenglert (Sweden), who met during their dance and choreography studies at the Stockholm University of the Arts.

Infinite end, infinite beginning

Jag står i ett vägskäl
I’m in this place that’s become home, but soon still I’m Going Home
What does that mean then
When I feel at home already where I am

Something is spinning in me
Or something has turned in me
I don’t know how to translate it
because I haven’t written it yet

(It means I will return)

I think I easily attach to places
I think I easily feel at home
And that is why leaving places is super hard
Maybe again it’s this
That the worst part is just the shadow of the best part

Here I dance slowly, occasionally stepping back, whispering something I cannot hear myself
Det klarnar, det utkristalliserar sig, det växer

En ljusstråle

I feel these months in Brussels have been some of my happiest
And when I left Stockholm I said I had never loved that city, my city, min hemstad, so much

There is so much to love everywhere
Ibland tror jag att jag ska explodera

I celebrate three months of living in France with this danse pour la tête dans les mains

I’m not always this tired
Don’t always need to hold up my head
I’m happy
Even when I’m tired I’m grateful

The first month I was here I got an orgelet and it’s still on my eye, but not swollen or red or yellow like the first weeks, it was a bit insane

What’s more insane though is the French language

It’s called a stye I think, in English
Words for things in cars, in the kitchen, unwanted things in your face, I don’t know better in English

No I am not yet fluent but I do work in French now
I learn to speak about dance, what I would need to clarify the improvisation
I learnt the word for shoulderblade

Progress is not linear, often I spend every other day feeling like a 3 year old, and every other day being able to speak about politics, or my childhood, or complex feelings and the reflections I had about them
It can never be like in the languages I have known for 26 or 20 years, but I guess the essence comes out

I call the health insurance saying hey French is not my mother tongue and she says but you speak very well, dont worry, I understand you very well and I think like yeah great but I hope I will also understand you through this soundscape of phone
Hey how’s it going with my social security number
I’m not a student
I’m an intern and soon intermittently employed dancer
But I’m a European citizen
What a privilege
I wait
I call back

A friend asked what my method of learning is and I said
To be thrown into the cold water and somehow not drown
although it can also be claustrophobic
needing to either take detours
or simplify
All the time
When I’m tired I just can’t anymore, don’t want
On this Friday evening tired after full full week I accidentally said:
I finished my studies next year

The times are hard
I mean the tenses are hard
I would have wanted, that’s one of the worst
J’aurais voulu
Or is it without the S in the end
Which is the future and which is the conditional
Grammar

At the same time
In the dance studio
We’re constructing non-existing languages, or rather, we bring them into existence, from sound, sentiment and souffle

The duo between Maya Giraudet (France) and Saga Ivéus Wenglert (Sweden) was formed in 2022 and developed over three years of studies in dance and performance at Stockholm University of the Arts. Centered around dance as our core, we work with humor, rhythm, voice, and the
use of language as our main tools.

From studio research to the stage, our relationship with the audience is one of our primary concerns, as it fuels our desire to make artistic practices more accessible and to encourage participation. Within this dialogue, we advocate for an approach that is both caring and daring.
