This 1894 building was originally the Mount Adams public school. It then became the School for Creative and Performing Arts and later the Art Academy of Cincinnati.

The beloved neighborhood landmark was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980 and converted to residential loft condos.

The building was designed by architect Henry E. Siter, who was also responsible for numerous local school buildings. Several of those have been adapted to residential use, including the Chase School in Northside and Walnut Hills High School (second location, East Walnut Hills), which are now condos, while the former Fairview School is now a rental apartment building.

Siter also designed banks, hotels and several local churches. He was known for his deft use of stately red brick and the Richardsonian Romanesque influence.

Located on Central Parkway, on @overtherhine’s border with @downtowncincy, the American Building is internationally recognized as an excellent example of Art Deco architecture.

Built in 1928, this 16-story limestone structure was designed by Joseph and Bernard Steinkamp, prolific local architects responsible for many elegant buildings of the era. It features a stepped façade and geometrical details.

The lobby sports a coffered ceiling with @rookwoodpottery tile, walls covered in book matched marble, and a terrazzo floor. When built, the property owners marketed the office building to the legal community, citing proximity to the Hamilton County Courthouse.

After a complete renovation in 2004, the building now contains luxury condominiums with a salon and offices at street level.
