✨I don’t think I’ll ever get sick of these bowls. ✨Their delicate flowers and the timelessness of the glaze with the gold. I’m having fun making new shapes, too- both of the flowers and the form. Can’t wait to show them to you.

Months and months in anticipation finally came into fruition for Scars: seen and unseen tonight. I I was so hopeful that the subjects would know how much thought and detail was put into each piece. I think it came through. ā˜ŗļø

I’ll be showing each individual piece in the next few days here on my page, but for now I just want to share how grateful I am for the friends and family who came to support us and the art. Who came with curiosity and openness. Thank you to Laura and Jason @khbrewlab for always being the most kind and wonderful hosts. But most of all thank you Ashley, Jessica and the incredible subjects for letting me be part of this amazing project with you.ā¤ļø

Hi! I noticed some new followers so I figured it was time for a (re)introduction especially with this new lovely photo by my sweet and talented friend @melissadarst . My Name is Carla and here you’ll follow me on the fun ups and downs of my pottery journey. I was born in Mexico City and grew up in College Station, never thinking I’d be an Aggie, but lo and behold I became one šŸ‘.
I love trying new things (as long as it doesn’t involve too high heights) and that’s how I got started. My kind friend Jen asked if I would take a class with her and I was hooked- like really really hooked. I was in a moment in my life where I was trying to reconnect to my creativity and it was so new and had so many facets to learn. That was in the fall of 2019 and I haven’t looked back. When my sweet teacher briefly moved away, she sold her class wheels and I was fortunate enough to get one. After training my throwing muscles I started to make too many things to keep, Salamander Hands Pottery was born. I haven’t looked back and keep figuring out ways to be cavalier with my trying new things- glazes and techniques- to the point I even dream about making things.
When I’m not throwing or making, I’m doing things with my family (lots of chauffeuring to sports and events), trying new restaurants or foods, traveling, volunteering at my kid’s schools, and being a homebody (when time permits).
Thank you for being here, for your curiosity and support of my dreams. It makes me so happy you did. šŸ’•āœØ

More and more things are mass produced and computer generated making hand made things more important to hold and surround yourself with- they are a true luxury. Support local makers or take a class and make something yourself. You’ll be happier for it. šŸ’• by @salamanderhandspottery

Letting this beauty dry slowly before her first firing. The flowers are SO delicate right now, so I’m taking extra care so they don’t crack or break. This will be a more rustic spin from my typical Anita bowls, but just as lovely. She will be with me at the garden in the Silos for @austinavenueartfair in November as well as some at @jinglebellmarketbcs .

This has been a full chapter of life and I’ve had to scale back some markets, but I’ve still been busy making in the background. Check out my website for upcoming shows, markets and events. taken in Magnolia Market Silos. Waco TX by @salamanderhandspottery

When I was little my abuelita sent me teeny little ceramic pots for me to play with from Mexico. They came on a little plate with teensy cups and plates and pitchers. I got back late Tuesday from the funeral for my aunt, and Mexico and my family are on my mind. Last night I decided to make some teensy vessels and I LOVE THEM.
I got a fun new thing I’ll be bringing to markets moving forward, and I think they will be some of the prizes. Swipe to see the fun new thing. Also salt shaker in the second photo for scale. by @salamanderhandspottery

I wear many hats and I love some more than others ,but I’m so proud of my little business and have learned so much in its growth. Some (most) days, I wish all I had to do was make.

Thank you always for your continued support. by @salamanderhandspottery

Ana is a common name in Mexican culture, but all the Anas I’ve known couldn’t be more different from one another- all beautiful and unique. Today my dear Tia Ana passed away. She was charismatic, funny, caring, so thoughtful, genuine, kind… I could go on and on. Always down for a good time, she would make sure we would have a birthday card every year when we were little and living in the states. A small, loving but powerful reminder that they remembered us even though we weren’t close by. More recently, she was so happy to take us to see the Luchas, a memory Hudson (and I) will never forget. She was a mother who loved her children fiercely and unconditionally, and was so so proud of them. Her relationship with my tío Juan was one for the storybooks, they cared for each other so much.

Gone too soon. She will be so missed. šŸ¤ by @salamanderhandspottery

These Anita crosses and ornaments came out of the kiln yesterday and are worth all the details and time it takes to make them- sometimes I wish I could speed up the time it takes me to produce them as easily as I do in the video šŸ˜†. āœØšŸ¤

Adding them to the website this evening and they will be with me at my upcoming markets.

Which ribbon is your favorite? The little cross ornaments will be perfect for the holidays or a little accent in a room or nursery. šŸ’•āœØ taken in College Station, Texas by @salamanderhandspottery

The process of me throwing a travel coffee cup (sped up big time). Made several of these today along with a smattering of other things. I left myself time at the end of my session to make something fun I just wanted to make today and I needed that. It’s been a busy season with commissions, which I am grateful for, but it’s nice to just make for the fun of it.

What have you been making lately?

A very sped up video of me trimming up one of many bowls. This is the same process of how I trim bowls for @bv_emptybowls and the bowls that @twochicksandaflame are using for their lovely candles! Each bowl is wheel thrown, dried, trimmed then fired, glazed and then fired for a last time.
The bowls I make are food safe, dishwasher & microwave safe too. I hope you love using them as much as I love making them. by @salamanderhandspottery
