PALS and I have some big news to share! After 3 big secret months, we are thrilled to finally announce.. WE ARE OPENING A CAT SHELTER!

It’s going to be an adoption center, a rehabilitation center (a safe place to land for spicy cats!), and have a really lovely community space that we can use for educational and fun events like kitten yoga, craft nights, board game nights.. We have a lot of ideas up our sleeves!

This does not come without its financial challenges of course, so we have launched a fundraiser - a lot of shelter details are within, including the proposal/outline and long term fundraising plan. We would love it if you are able to donate, share, tell your friends, hang a flyer for us. This is truly a community effort that we hope will give back to the community tenfold.

Transparency: All funds go directly to PALS, who is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, whereas Salem Cat Aid is not at this time. I am not only SCA, but I am also a PALS board member and volunteer. This is truly a perfect collaboration.

If you have any questions, please ask! We will share as much as we are able.

Meet Molly!

This pretty and small year-ish old girl is unfortunately in her THIRD foster home, and desperately waiting for her forever home. In her first foster home after being trapped as a stray, she was shut down. Then she crashed with me for a while and was SO LOVEY with me, but really hated coexisting with other cats.

She's starting to really thrive being the solo girl in foster home 3, but.. despite seeking out pets, they sometimes make her nervous and she'll nip. She otherwise follows her foster around happily and sleeps in bed with her at night.

Molly needs to be the only cat in a home, without other pets or kids. She's a total sweetheart, but it will help if her future person understands cat language and can tell if she becomes anxious during pets. She just wants to be someone's companion.

Still too busy to remember that social media is a thing I should be doing.😅 The recently trapped kittens (this group are named after trees!) are done being hissy and have realized that human laps are pretty nice.

They have to grow up a bit more and have their neuters and spays, but then they'll be adoptable!

Oh hi! This post is for transparency! It is October and clearly we did not make our hopeful "end of summer" opening date. Which is not to say progress has halted! Quite the opposite. Space renovations are coming along great, we've had a couple of classes (featuring kittens!) in the main room. But still, there are delays.

It's two of us who are the founders of the CDC. Me (Cass of @salem.cat.aid, and I'm also a PALS volunteer and on the board of directors), and Sandy (also on the PALS board and is the person who manages most of the organization's behind the scenes stuff). We've had so many wonderful volunteers helping out with CDC stuff, but unfortunately for us, we also have jobs. Sandy has a full time 9-5, and I have literally 3 different part time gigs. Sometimes 4.

And there's been so many cat-things that have been the priority. Stray kittens, illnesses, surrenders, and we both have foster cats as well. And for me, October is the busiest work month of my year.

So, CDC progress is really only as much as our schedules allow. Things are great, just moving more slowly than we'd like. And you deserve to know what's going on.❤️ by @salem.cat.aid

There are few things that will make me drop all Friday evening @hauntedhappeningsmarket prep and immediately leave my house in basically pajamas.

I regret nothing. Welcome to the indoors, little ones. Two more and mama will hopefully be trapped tomorrow.❤️

RIDDLE ME THIS: How do I still have two foster kittens?! They have been to multiple events with me, even received a bunch of applications.. only for everyone to have changed their mind or choose one of their siblings.😭

Christopher: 1st pic! Most independent, but will randomly leap into your lap to say hello. He has the LOUDEST purr. 3 months old and he purrs like a gigantic adult.

Liam: 2nd pic. Ugh my heart. Don't tell the others, but I love him a little extra. He's brave, ridiculous, independent but also clingy?! He's perfect.

Both boys are neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. In a perfect world they'd be adopted together, BUT as long as they go to a home with another friendly cat, I'll be happy (seriously, they will insist on being your cat's play and snuggle buddy if they don't have each other).

Things have been chaos - spending most of my days at the @catdistributioncenter and prepping for @hauntedhappeningsmarket . But on Sunday I trapped these three young kittens in Peabody. The bad news is, the commercial property owner won't let me go back for the last two or mama. I'll figure it out, I'm DETERMINED.

Actually, mama WAS trapped but I had to make the decision to release her, because after being outdoors for 8 hours I had no luck with the remaining two kittens. And yes, the three trapped are okay! They're old enough to be enjoying wet food.❤️

Some of you may remember Rain from the PetSmart adoption center - she was there all summer! She would flirt with folks behind the glass, but hiss and swat at anyone, including us, on the other side of it. Well.. TURNS OUT OUR GIRL WAS A SECRET LAP CAT.

We took her out of the adoption center and gave her a room of her own. And the turnaround was almost instant. She is sweet, gentle, and LOVES love. She just wants to be an only pet in a quiet house, and she'll spend her days purring at you and climbing into your lap. She even lets us pick her up and give her kisses! We've all fallen in love with her all over again, and are so proud.
