Oh hi! This post is for transparency! It is October and clearly we did not make our hopeful "end of summer" opening date. Which is not to say progress has halted! Quite the opposite. Space renovations are coming along great, we've had a couple of classes (featuring kittens!) in the main room. But still, there are delays.

It's two of us who are the founders of the CDC. Me (Cass of @salem.cat.aid, and I'm also a PALS volunteer and on the board of directors), and Sandy (also on the PALS board and is the person who manages most of the organization's behind the scenes stuff). We've had so many wonderful volunteers helping out with CDC stuff, but unfortunately for us, we also have jobs. Sandy has a full time 9-5, and I have literally 3 different part time gigs. Sometimes 4.

And there's been so many cat-things that have been the priority. Stray kittens, illnesses, surrenders, and we both have foster cats as well. And for me, October is the busiest work month of my year.

So, CDC progress is really only as much as our schedules allow. Things are great, just moving more slowly than we'd like. And you deserve to know what's going on.❤️

Annual orange lights selfie 🧡✨ the past few weeks have been a whirlwind for @tylergtwombly and I! It was filled with friends, theater and art, and cats. We celebrated Tyler’s 40th birthday and our 5-year wedding anniversary (wedding photo at the end).

We both survived our first October weekend (THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO ADOPTED A PRINT!!). THE WOMAN IN BLACK opened at Ames Hall, and Tyler gave some amazing performances. I am so proud of him, and the whole cast & crew! Have you reserved your seat yet?! The l1nk is in my b10graphy.

I am so excited for the rest of the month and experiencing downtown Salem from the comfort of my little zen print burrow. Come say hi!

I couldn’t ask for a better partner to do all these crazy creative endeavors with, and certainly couldn’t do any of it without him 🥰

Performance photo of Tyler & Gary Ames was taken by Dana Giuliana 📸

I’m a big witch with six familiars and I am coveting the xxl broom at @wytchwood . The syrup is spectacular too.

Have you been into @shopsat1derby yet? They don’t have a storefront to catch your eye- just a couple doors for those who know! There are so many wonderful creative businesses inside.

Also, if you want to lighten my load and take a bonded pair of scruffy senior cats off my hands, ask about Kay and Serafino which I am fostering through @pals_animal_life_savers and @salem.cat.aid @catdistributioncenter

A young fan drew this picture for @jasonmarsden during his visit to @salemcatmuseum last Friday, and she did such a great job! ❤️ She was working on it while hanging out with the cutest little kittens from @salem.cat.aid. Not a bad way to spend the day in Salem! 🐱 #salemma #disney #hocuspocus #cats

About a month ago, someone asked me where Salem’s Cat Museum was. My very helpful response? “We have a cat museum?!” 😂🐈‍⬛

Well, we do, and @salemcatmuseum is a hidden gem that deserves a lot more love.

I was reminded of it again while updating my Things to Do / events list, so I decided to finally check it out before the storm rolled in!

I stopped by before heading downtown, because I’m just like the rest of you: once I find a parking spot down there, we’re in a committed relationship. 😂 You’ll find the museum at 107 Boston Street, with unmetered street parking nearby.

Inside, there’s cat-inspired art, quirky collectibles, exhibits about Salem’s connection to cats, a library of cat books, and a cat-themed gift shop. There’s so much more to it than I expected!

But Wendy, who owns and runs it, makes it even more special. She might honestly be the sweetest person I’ve met in Salem, and quite possibly one of the smartest. Her warmth, knowledge, and love for what she’s created made such an impression on me. ❤️

I also happened to stop in while @jasonmarsden was there! He’s the voice of Max, Goofy’s son in A Goofy Movie, which inspired the road trip I took with my son last spring. And, of course, he’s the voice of the one and only Thackery Binx from Hocus Pocus, our favorite black cat. 🐈‍⬛

Even better, his “Meow & Greet” was a fundraiser benefiting both the Salem Cat Museum and @salem.cat.aid, which helps local cats and families in need. The Salem Cat Aid team was even there with the cutest little kittens! 🥹🐾 Binx showing up for real-life cats? That feels pretty perfect.

Salem has so much to discover beyond downtown. Go say hello to Wendy and give this little gem some love. I’m really glad I did. ❤️

Did you know about the Cat Museum, or did I just get to break the news to you, too? 😂

We are very behind on posts because our social media person (hi it's me, Cass!) has had some LIFE STUFF. We have a lot to share with you, but LOOK. MERCH IS FINISHED. And today, Finn supervised the printing of your packing slips, so everything will be on the way to you tomorrow/Wednesday!❤️
