I cannot express adequately how grateful I am for all of the people who have made this moment possible— it wasn’t because of me, however, it was because of the historic moment I reported on, but also all of the people who trusted me to tell their story.

HARRISBURG, Pa. — Gov. Josh Shapiro was not in a conciliatory mood.

“We have a long history in Pennsylvania of industry running roughshod over our communities to make a buck,” the Pennsylvania Democrat said in a speech, his voice rising with anger. “That stops with me.”

It was Aug. 18, and he was holding an executive order he was about to sign that would limit data center development. The governor, who is up for reelection in November, said speculative proposals to build data centers had swamped Pennsylvania. He said many of the projects were “led by developers who have no regard for local communities.”

He called them “predatory” developers. Then he made it personal: “We will not be bullied by developers and bulldozed by the lawyers working for these Big Tech companies.”

“Today, I’m formally putting them on notice.”

More than a year earlier, Shapiro, a potential 2028 presidential candidate who had made Kamala Harris’s shortlist to be her running mate, felt much differently.

WYTHEVILLE, Virginia — Most people meet this town zooming past it at 70 miles an hour.
Interstate 77 comes up out of North Carolina Interstate 81 runs down the Great Valley toward Bristol. They cross here, share a few miles of pavement, and then split again. Truckers stop for diesel. Families stop for a bathroom. Then they are gone.
They miss the better road.
U.S. 11 runs right through downtown as Main Street. In this part of Virginia it is also called the Lee Highway.
Before that it was the Great Road, the wagon road that carried settlers south out of Pennsylvania and Maryland and down the valley toward Cumberland Gap. Virginia now signs the corridor as the Wilderness Road: Virginia’s Heritage Migration Route About 10 miles east, at Fort Chiswell, long hunters set out in 1761 for the country beyond the mountains.
On March 10, 1775, Daniel Boone and some 30 axmen set out from the Long Island of the Holston near present-day Kingsport, Tennessee, to cut a path through Cumberland Gap into Kentucky. The crown had banned settlement beyond the mountains They went anyway. Hundreds of thousands of settlers followed, and many of them came down this valley to get there.
That was 250 years ago. Virginia and Kentucky spent last year marking the anniversary with reenactors, relay hikes, and a ceremonial ax carried from Kingsport to Fort Boonesborough.
This year the country marks its own 250th. https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/columnists/4761231/wilderness-road-wytheville-virginia-edith-bolling-wilson/ #appalachia by @salenazito

PITTSBURGH — The last time Marc Fogel saw Steve Witkoff snow was falling at a Moscow airport, and Witkoff had just come from the Kremlin to take him home.
“Marc,” Witkoff told him, “it’s time to get on the plane.”
“Marc,” Witkoff told him, “it’s time to get on the plane.”
Twenty months later, on the second floor of the Jewish Community Center in Squirrel Hill, a short walk from the Tree of Life synagogue, where a gunman murdered 11 worshipers in 2018 in the deadliest attack on Jews in American history, the two men saw each other again. Neither one said anything at first. They just reached for each other.
It was not a handshake or the quick back-slap men of a certain age use to say hello without saying anything. Witkoff, President Donald Trump’s special envoy to the Middle East, and Fogel, the Western Pennsylvania schoolteacher he brought out of a Russian prison in February 2025, held on, let go, looked at each other, and held on again. Both were crying. Over the next hour, they would do it several more times: in the middle of a sentence, in the middle of a memory, whenever one of them got to the part neither could get through. #october7th

All thanks to needing chapstick my daughter just saved a woman's life just now.
We were driving to eldest granddaughter's soccer game when she pulled over on some random patch of gravel on the side of the road to get Chapstick out of the back of the car. The road was busy. My granddaughters were noisy. Nonetheless she heard someone yelling faintly "help. Help!"
She ran across the road and saw a woman laying on her garage floor. 78 years old. No family. No cell phone. Lovely home. She had been on the ground for over eight hours. She said she tripped over nothing. We all prayed with her until the paramedics came.
I do believe in angels. And my daughter was guided by one today.

Five years ago in the middle of COVID in a neighborhood I was very new to and on a complete whim, I decided why not have an Oktoberfest in the neighborhood? Yeah it was pretty crazy idea. Nonetheless I made a flyer, asked people to bring a side dish, chairs and a smile and all of their kids, meet in the circle in the middle of the neighborhood and have our first Oktoberfest. I walked around and put the flyers in everyone's mailbox. Yes, I know you're not supposed to do that. I'm edgy that way. And when the day came, I had no idea if anyone would show up. Well they did. Five years later, we are still going strong. The food is amazing. The company is priceless. We've got over two dozen kids in the neighborhood now. And we close the night out with a big campfire. #douglasheights by @salenazito

As many of you know I broke my leg in a couple of places; altho it took a minute Ive fully recovered with exception of 1 quirk--no more pointed toe cowboy boots.
Good news for my daughter; she's inherited 40 yrs of boot curating & I've discovered square toe boots work just fine. by @salenazito

For whatever reason, I always end up with all of the sideline siblings during the oldest grandchild's soccer games; I suspect the reason is simply because I still play like a child. 😊 And yes, my youngest grandson has a Captain America full costume on. by @salenazito

@willhoward Howard said faiths role in his life is everything, “I've been really big on it this camp and I just feel like I continue to be rooted in my faith,” he said, adding, “And good or bad, I go to Him and he helps me with everything. And I listen to my scripture every morning, walk into the weight room to the cafeteria and that helps me just get off to a good start in my morning. And as much as I can just think about Him and keep my thoughts revolving around the greater of the universe."

Aaron Rodgers’s way into conversations is not authority. It is admission.

“I think a true big brother, a mentor, whatever it might be, is someone who can first admit that it’s okay to make mistakes — because I’ve made the same mistakes,” Rodgers said.

Aaron Rodgers does not talk about retirement merely as someone arranging a business portfolio. He talks about it as someone preparing for a different form of responsibility.
