📣 OPEN CALL: SALFORD ARTISTS, MAKERS & DESIGNERS

We’re looking for ideas for new public art projects across The Makers District - and there’s no set brief. We want to hear your ideas and your creativity.
Projects could be large scale or small, permanent or temporary. We’re open to all kinds of approaches and ideas.

We have some potential sites in mind around Chapel Street, Oldfield Road, Trinity Way, Islington Way, Bridgewater Street and East Philip Street, as well as roads and sites around/ leading to Islington Mill, Hot Bed Press and Paradise Works.

If you have a particular site in mind, tell us about it!

WHO CAN APPLY?
Artists, makers and designers living or working anywhere in Salford. You do not need to be based in The Makers District.

WHAT TO SUBMIT
Please send your proposal as a PDF of no more than 6 pages and no larger than 3MB, including:
• A maximum 300-word statement outlining your proposal • A page of images of your work • Up to 3 links to your website, Instagram or other relevant sites • Up to 100 words of additional information, if relevant - for example, materials, fixings, installation or other practical considerations • Any thoughts on where you would like the work to be situated, if you have a particular site in mind • A full budget, including artist fees, materials and any practical costs such as fabrication, delivery, fixings and installation
Please give us a sense of the scale/size of your proposed work and flag any practical requirements, such as access equipment or installation at height.

PROJECT BUDGETS
Projects can have budgets of £500-£10,000, depending on the scale and nature of the proposal. Your budget should include all costs from creation through to installation.

✨ One week ago, we celebrated the launch of Salford Creatives with a fantastic sold-out event, bringing together creatives, cultural organisations and partners from across the city.

We heard speeches from @salford_mayor , @cllrrobinsonsmith and @jarviski_ from @aceagrams, alongside an inspiring performance from @thirstypoet to mark National Poetry Day.

It was a brilliant evening of connection and celebration, shining a light on Salford’s creative community and sharing everything the new platform has to offer.

Salford Creatives is now live! 🥳 If you haven’t explored it yet, now’s the time. The platform brings together creative profiles, opportunities and resources, making it easier to showcase your work, discover new opportunities and connect with others.

SALFORD CREATIVES LAUNCHES ON 1 OCTOBER: Local talent is about to get a boost as a new online hub to celebrate, connect and support Salford’s thriving cultural sector launches next week.

@salfordcreatives is a first-of-its-kind resource designed to make it easier for creatives to discover opportunities, build networks and showcase local talent - it's been developed directly in collaboration with Salford’s creative community, by the Salford Culture and Place Partnership (SCPP), supported using public funding by the National Lottery through @acegrams.

The platform will provide practical tools and opportunities to help artists, freelancers, makers, organisations and cultural leaders develop their work, reach new audiences and support long-term growth, with features including a creative directory, opportunities board, resources hub and sector news.

We’re counting down to the Salford Creatives launch event and we’ve got a brilliant line-up of creatives joining us to celebrate the launch of Salford’s new creative platform 🎉

Here’s what’s happening on the night:

🟠@salfordbadgeclub - get hands-on with a badge-making workshop featuring designs inspired by our Rabble characters.

🖋️ @thethirstypoet - In celebration of National Poetry Day Matt Concannon aka The Thirsty Poet will be performing his poem ‘The Salford Way’.

🎧 @sophhmichael - DJ Sophia will be providing the soundtrack for the night with a live DJ set.

🎨 Jo Haney from @peoplewithgrit - creating a live painting, Salford creatives inspired, throughout the evening. Everyone is invited to get involved and leave their own mark!

SALFORD CREATIVES: An online hub built to support, celebrate and connect Salford’s thriving cultural sector is set to launch this October.

‘Salford creatives’ will make it easier for creative communities to discover opportunities, build networks and showcase local talent. The first-of-its-kind resource is set to launch on Thu 1 Oct.

Developed by the Salford Culture and Place Partnership (SCPP), supported using public funding by the National Lottery through @acegrams, the platform will provide practical tools and opportunities to help artists, freelancers, makers, organisations and cultural leaders develop their work, reach new audiences and support long-term growth across the sector.

Helpful features will include a creative directory, opportunities board, resources hub and sector news, all housed in one accessible space. The platform itself has been developed directly in collaboration with Salford’s creative community through interviews, workshops, surveys and creative activities.
