Without animals, a forest is just a cluster of trees, it does not feel alive. When a herd of deer drinks water in the morning, the call of a peacock is heard at noon, and a lion’s roar echoes in the evening, only then you realize that the forest is breathing. That is its beauty.
And you see this balance every day in the forest. If there are no predators, herbivores increase. If herbivores increase, the grass disappears. If the grass disappears, the land becomes bare. Break one link and the whole chain shakes. That is why wildlife is not just something to watch, it is the very system that holds the entire ecosystem together.

People think that being a king means comfort, but in the jungle it is the opposite. The real fight begins only after wearing the crown. Protecting your territory, not letting your herd go hungry, facing new challenges every day. If you are weak one day, the crown goes to someone else.
That is why a lion never sleeps peacefully, even when half asleep, its ears are erect.
The same is true of humans. Whoever has responsibility on his head has to win his place again every day. The crown is not made of gold, it is made of responsibility.

When you see a male lion in the Gir doing this posture in the same spot after urinating on a tree, rock or grass, he’s not just “smelling.” He’s reading:
• Whose mark is this — male or female
• Is it from his own group or a stranger outside
• Age, social status, and if a female, whether she’s in heat or not
That’s why the flehman is most often done when the smell of urine is detected, especially by male lions to check the reproductive status of females. Research suggests that this behavior is common in all felids — cheetahs, tigers, house cats and lions — but males do it more often than females.
The reason the eyes are half-closed is also interesting — at that moment the lion’s entire attention is on the chemical information, the body automatically going into “focus mode” to minimize visual distractions.

The king of the jungle is the lion, but after wearing that crown, he does not get any rest, he has to win the battle every day.
I am a wildlife guide, so I know that the same law applies in Gir National Park: there are no written rules here, only strength, companionship and endurance. So I say that life without struggle is useless. This is literally true for the lion. His crown is not inherited, it has to be washed with blood every day and worn again. And it is the struggle that makes him king, not rest.
When one hears the roar of a male in the forests of Gir, it is not just a sound — it is the presence of his daily job: “I am still here, I am still fighting.”
