Okay but…
I actually can’t explain how big my smile gets on annual gingerbread day.
This year was by far the silliest yet…

The ginger bread house making last December levelled up. With fairy lights, smoke coming out chimneys, rooftop gardens, fireplaces, crocodile motes, candles and a lift up roof to reveal Santa on his cottage throne.

A part of the criteria was an improv story about the origins of the house. Turns out when your friends are artists, musos, thespians and silly kooky cats… the result is actually terribly good storytelling - even on the fly. Ridiculous times.

Cappa judged and the decision was made.

Our team took the win and despite Madds taking the comp to the Insta band account polls for round 2 judging, we remained champs.

Somehow Teen dads LifeSize Christmas cut out made its way to Indi and Nate’s before the boys came to pick it up. Many laughs occurred in the meantime.

Eddy also was enjoying taking pics with his flip phone. Nate was on the handy cam as always. Can’t wait for that footage.

Last vid is loud from immense joy. sorry not sorry.
Also I hate my voice but exposure therapy…

Oh and, grateful that this celebration usually falls around my bday and I get to feel the warmth of my friends.

When was the last time you jumped??

Some time spent over on French island at Abby’s parents for Nate’s bday. Taking Martha on the Ferry was amusing but she loved it actually

I think Josh and Gret have the title for most occurrences in my film rolls thus far.

This pic was taken when we were all attempting to get as many 360’s in a row. Falling did occur.

I got some film back and I’m gonna post some straight away otherwise it sits in my drafts for eternity 💋🌟

This one, is my dearest friends Lauren and Noah. November 16th - after Town Folk Festival Antics. I made them stop and stand in this doorway because how could you not get a picture in a magic portal like that 🚪 (also lol the camera cord got in the way but that’s the charm of film pics)

When I was little, raining outside or a soft sunny autumn day, my little hands would reach for the cupboard doors under the book shelf. I used to sit and look at my parents / family photo albums for hours. Maybe this was my first embodied experience of nostalgia?

Lately when people have asked me what I’ve been up to, I seem to answer: “mostly thinking”

The thinking comes from lots of feeling.
And vice versa.
I’ve put some of this thinking into words and over some images above.
The photos - some people and places I love.

Aside from that…

I’m dropping out of the digital world for a bit -
or at least attempting to.

In the words of spacey jane…

GIG DEBUT GIG DEBUT !! 🦋

It seems I’ve forgotten…
Forgotten how to talk about playing gigs.
It’s been such a long time.
The pipes are a little rusty and the guitar a bit dusty - but I’m stepping into this era whether I’m ready or not; shaking and shedding the idea that things must be clean and polished before you let the world see them.
Joining me in the rawness will be my all time best friends Rose Verey and @_alex_marko - what an honour 🌟
@retreat_hotel_brunswick was the first Naarm/Melbourne venue I played 7 years ago in spag stains, and where we released our debut single… so it’s a full circle moment to be stepping into this new form / debuting project Sally Salte on the retreat stage.

Joining are other fab musicians @grevilleahedge @munkus.funkus and Skin Deep

Friends will be sharing the stage on this cosy evening at the retreat.

♥️
I remember thinking “Wow look at that kangaroo grass”. I just had to take a picture. The hot afternoon sun settling down.

I wrote this poem whilst alone on New years Eve last year. Relieving myself from the idea that those societally celebrated times, had to be spent with others, out and about dancing. I danced with myself instead. In the river water of the freestone creek on Brayakaulung Country. What will always be my home.

The poem is something I wrote through the lens of self compassion. If only sometimes we saw ourselves like we see others, like others see and love us. I thought about how in awe I always am of the natural world. But actually, I/we are the natural world. So I wrote the poem from the perspective of the Earth, as if it were witnessing and admiring me 🌿🌞🐝 by @sally.salte

My first visit to Nipaluna/Hobart- Lutruwita/Tasmania. A long awaited voyage. Waters may part our presence but that doesn’t mean they are not some of my closest friends. I’ll join them one day.

It’s taken me nearly a year to fill my recent film roll. It was the roll that felt like it would never end. Supposedly 36 exposures but I got 39. “This is the last picture” and it wasn’t.
Anyway here are some oldies I never posted from a previous roll before I share the new ones.

Gret and I hiking on Taungurung country / Cathedral Ranges. The first hike back for me, within a journey of chronic pain - determined to not let that narrative stifle what I love - wandering and frolicking through the mountains ✨
