Honored to deliver a keynote as a Female ECSA Youth Representative and Coordinator of the first ECSA-HC Regional Youth Summit #ECSAHCRYS2026 🌍

The Summit was convened to amplify youth voices on sexual and reproductive health, mental health, and the demographic dividend issues that directly shape the future of our region.

For me, this opportunity represents more than a moment on stage. It reflects years of youth-led advocacy and collective effort, and it reinforces a truth I strongly believe in: when young people are trusted and given space, we move from consultation to meaningful action.

As ECSA youth, our message is clear: young people must be positioned as partners in development, not merely beneficiaries of programs and policies. Our voices, experiences, and innovations are essential in shaping solutions that respond to the realities we face.

Our Call is Clear:
“Nothing for youth, without the youth.”

The opportunity to attend conferences like the International Primary Healthcare Conference is more than just being part of an event.

It is an opportunity to:

• Learn from different experiences and perspectives
• Ask questions and challenge our thinking
• Share lessons from the field
• Build meaningful professional connections
• Take new knowledge and ideas back into practice

As public health professionals, continuous learning matters because the health challenges we face are constantly evolving.

A conference may end, but the real value begins when we take what we have learned and turn it into action.

Learn. Connect. Share. Apply. Impact.

Day 2 at the 2nd International Primary Healthcare Conference 2026🌍

Today, I had the opportunity to engage in various sessions, exchange perspectives, and contribute to different discussions. The session on “Building a Resilient Primary Health Care System to Prevent, Detect and Respond to Public Health Emergencies” particularly stood out to me.

The session highlighted that public health emergencies often begin with an individual, family, or community before escalating into a national concern. This reinforced the importance of strengthening preparedness at the community and local government levels.

I also raised an important question: Where is the gap? Despite continuous training and preparedness efforts, we continue to see healthcare workers becoming infected and, in some emergencies, losing their lives.

This brought us back to the basics: proper practice of Infection Prevention and Control (IPC), consistent adherence to procedures, and ensuring frontline health workers have and correctly use appropriate PPE when providing care.

Preparedness is not only about having guidelines and conducting trainings; it is also about translating knowledge into practice, every day and especially during emergencies.

Together, we can build safer, stronger and more resilient primary healthcare systems towards Universal Health Coverage🤝
