Vanny banananny! Wow you are five! I have a five year old! You have expanded my heart in every way imaginable, kiddo! To be in relationship with you, just two people connecting, is a gift. The more years we have together, the more clearly we see each other. Hard to think of anything more beautiful than this true knowing.
You are wicked smart and deeply hilarious, so loving and gentle. Fearless in your interactions. You can talk to anyone and capture their attention - a 65 yr old woman outside a coffee shop, a Gen Z retail worker, a toddler on the playground. Every time I’m with you, I get to witness you make someone’s day better, just by genuinely engaging. It’s a superpower.
You still love mac and cheese. And dessert. And the color yellow. You’re an amazing tree climber. You’re learning to write! You love love love to laugh. And have epic, rambunctious pillow fights. You adore school.
You have so many questions about this giant world, so much you want to find out about how things work or why people do the things they do. You’re observant and your desire to know and understand is bigger than big.
You’re good to the people around you. You’re deeply, enthusiastically obsessed with your friends. You let Darcy get away with the craziest things because you want to hear her laugh. You remind me to breathe when I get overwhelmed, remember the songs that cheer Darc up, make extra popsicle experiments for dad when he’s traveling, so he won’t feel left out when he returns. You brushed my hair out of my face when we were curled up with the flu a couple weeks ago. The most tender gesture.

Happy 2nd bday, girly. It is so fun being your mom. You’re a goof and a sass and an inspiration. You love to sing and dance, love to give running hugs, love to sample food off everyone’s plate, love sunglasses, love to crack up and squeal with Vanny, love bubbles, love to stack clothes on your arms and pose, love to play hide and seek, love to prank me by pretending to sleep when I’m unbuckling your car seat, love to be LOUD. You are the most determined person I’ve ever met. If you set your sights on something, I can consider it done. You want to dress yourself, sit in the grownup chairs at the table, conquer the big kid parts of the playground, run straight into the ocean waves, climb the counter stool, brush your own teeth. In fact, you don’t seem to know you’re a tiny person at all. I’m grateful that despite aiming to be entirely independent, you still love a cuddle and a kiss as much as the other two year olds. Otherwise you might get a couple roommates and try to make your own way in this crazy world. And then I’d miss the thumping of your feet running from the other room, the way you love to repeat the names of our family members over and over, the way you eat three breakfasts every morning. Thank you for making me a better mom and person and for bringing so much energy and joy into our home. We love having you here: in this world, in this house, in our every day. 🎈 by @sallyeidman
