September has been Suicide prevention month which encourages people to “Start the conversation” My dad took his own life on 2nd September 1981, he was just 59, it was his 3rd attempt and it was 2 weeks after my 21st birthday. My mum was 55 at the time, my brother and 2 older sisters dealt with this tragedy in our own different ways.
I can remember very clearly the events of that awful day, Dad was very determined to end his life and I’m not sure there was anything we could have done to prevent it. 45 years ago suicide was looked upon very differently to now, we had people avoiding us in the street, someone even asked if he could have a church service. My heart goes out to anyone who has found themselves in the same situation as our family and I can only hope that my Dad found himself in a better place. 😔#suicidepreventionmonth #family #memories #suicide by @sallymasterson

In my ever changing little world one thing that keeps me sane is the love I have for my grandchildren and the love I feel from them. My special boy, Frank, to have a grandson who loves football as much as me is literally a dream come true. How very lucky we were this week to spend time with Jem and Cons on their actual birthdays, we all have such busy lives so we appreciate these moments, especially on their special days. A lovely meet-up with Jem, the family and her in laws in Woking on Sunday and a trip to Pizza Express with cons on Tuesday. Family time is the best time. #family #happybirthday by @sallymasterson

2 years ago today we lost the most special person, not a day goes by that I don’t think about her, it’s impossible to measure how much she’s missed. I can still hear my awful scream when I was told the news, I hope that will fade with time. We were so lucky to have her in our lives and for that we will be forever grateful. Please tell someone today that you love them and remember to “Be more Madge”. 🌹 #love #mum #missed by @sallymasterson

With thanks to Chrissie and Elle @tattooshed for making me so at ease for my first tattoo aged 65. I have always kept cards from close family and I’m so pleased that I did, what better way to keep mum with me than looking at her message everyday.
