We’re already looking forward to Hamburg Art Week next weekend! ✨

From 3–6 September 2026, the founding edition of Hamburg Art Week will bring together artists, galleries, curators, institutions, and art professionals across the city.

And many of our SALOON Hamburg members are involved in all kinds of ways: as art mediators leading the Walk & Talk tours for the Landesverband Hamburger Galerien, as exhibiting artists in off-spaces, galleries and institutions, as curators and gallerists – and much more!

Tell us in the comments: What are you involved in? What are you organising? Where are you exhibiting? And where can we find you during Hamburg Art Week?

We’d love to know – and are excited to see you around. ✨

A rainy July day didn’t stop us! ☔

In July, we had the pleasure of visiting the NDR campus together with SALOON Hamburg member Andrea Völker and Branka de Veer. During the tour they carefully researched and developed, we learned so much about the history of broadcasting in Hamburg, the site’s architecture, and the NDR art collection.

A huge thank you to Andrea and Branka for their dedication, generosity, and the wealth of knowledge they shared with us. We highly recommend this tour!
We rounded off the afternoon with relaxed conversations over picnic in the NDR canteen.

Great to join @saloonhamburg meeting last month and meet some of our members. We visited a 40 foot container for an interactive guided tour of the exhibition ZUGUNRUHE by Sarah Gramotke, Viktoria Rochambeau, Vilja Gunzelmann, & Oksana Yushko. During my time in Hamburg, also met Saloon baby Oskar, who recently visited my work and sent over a selfie from the museum. 👶 #saloonhamburg #saloontoronto #saloonnetwork taken in Hamburg, Germany by @saloonhamburg

In June, we visited the current exhibition in the 40ft container. “ZUGUNRUHE” is taking place from 5 June to 19 July 2026 as part of the Triennial of Photography.

SALOON Hamburg member Viktoria Rochambeau, together with her colleague Vilja Gunzelmann and the artist Oksana Yushko, invited us to an artist talk. Many thanks for the in-depth insights into your collaboration, curatorial decisions and artistic strategy – a fascinating conversation in an extraordinary venue!

Some impressions from our first two SALOON meetings!
In April and May we took the chance of our new start as Hamburg board to invite all members for a workshop: what makes our network strong, what do we want to add and how do we envision the future of SALOON Hamburg? Thanks to everyone who came for sharing your thoughts, ideas, time and delicious food with us. And thanks to the City of Hamburg for providing this beautiful space 🍵
The inspiration from the workshops will stay with us and some plants are already starting to grow 💚

We are looking forward to our meetings in June and July!

Dear SALOON community,

We are thrilled to embark on a new chapter of SALOON Hamburg together with you. SALOON is an international non-profit network for women-identifying art professionals — a space for exchange, solidarity, visibility, and mutual support.

At this moment, we would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Franziska Storch and Charlotte Gaitzsch for their dedication in founding and shaping SALOON Hamburg — for their many ideas, the time and energy they invested, and above all for the trust they placed in us to carry this work forward.

The next (and last) board member we would like to introduce today is Andrea Richter:
Andrea Richter is a journalist, author and director specialising in visual arts and contemporary culture. She has been working for public broadcasters such as NDR and ARTE for many years, contributing to formats including NDR Kultur – Das Magazin, ttt – titel thesen temperamente and the ARTE culture magazine TWIST, where she also serves as head author.
She studied Visual Communication as well as Art Theory and History at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste Hamburg, graduating with distinction. Richter’s work combines art-historical expertise with strong visual and media literacy, focusing on contemporary artistic practices and cultural discourse. Since 2024, she has been pursuing a part-time Master’s degree in Digital Journalism at Hamburg Media School.

Today we are happy to introduce our next board member Hannah Bode:
Hannah Bode (she/her) is in the final stages of her master’s degree in art history at the University of Hamburg. In her research focus on contemporary art and modernism, she is particularly interested in queer-feminist and postcolonial perspectives. She has been living in Hamburg since 2019 and has since worked in different areas of the arts and culture sector. In 2021, she worked for the Virtual Reality and Arts Festival Hamburg (VRHAM!), in 2021/22 at the heliumcowboy artspace gallery for the feminist exhibition „NATÜRLICH.“ and in 2025, through her support of curator Dr. Annabelle Görgen-Lammers in the extensive exhibition project „Rendezvous der Träume. Surrealismus und deutsche Romantik“ at Hamburger Kunsthalle.
For four years now, she has been organising the programme of the Junge Freunde of the Freunde der Kunsthalle e. V. Additionally, she works for the POSITIONS Berlin Art Fair and where she was promoted to Head of Art Guides in 2024. She also volunteers at nachtspeicher23 e. V., an offspace gallery in St. Georg.

The next board member we would like to introduce today is Bärbel Praun:

Bärbel Praun (she/her) is a visual artist working at the intersection of photography, sculpture, and installation. Her work explores the relationship between object, material, and space, as well as the value of our everyday material world and the visibility of process and time. Complex and often invisible issues such as climate change, resource exploitation, and ecological responsibility inform both the content and methodology of her practice. Fragility and ephemerality are central to her work, alongside questions of balance, interdependence, and coexistence. Since 2020, she has been part of the Italian-German artist duo Celata & Praun.

Recent exhibitions include Kunstverein Wagenhalle Stuttgart (DE), Espaço Mira (PRT), La Biennale dello Stretto (IT), Galerie Heike Strelow (DE), and the XXIII Cerveira International Art Biennial (PRT). She was recently a scholarship holder and guest artist at the Bienal de Cerveira in Vila Nova de Cerveira (PRT) and Atelier Josepha in Ahrenshoop.

Today, we would like to introduce our first board member, Si-Ying Fung:

Si-Ying Fung (she/her) is a visual artist and art and culture mediator.
In her work, she keeps coming back to the relationship between place and identity and the feeling of belonging. This has sparked her interest in labels and categories, and especially in how they can fail. In search of her own language for the narratives between things and how they can be physically perceived, she creates objects and installations. By arranging things in space, connections and stories (between them) become visible.

After studying Chinese Studies and Art History at the University of Hamburg, Illustration at HAW Hamburg, and Fine Arts at Muthesius University of Fine Arts and Design — as well as being a guest student at the China Academy of Art in Hangzhou — Si-Ying now lives and works in Hamburg as a visual artist and art and culture mediator.

She has received scholarships from the DAAD and the Claussen-Simon Foundation, and has been an Artist in Residence at Salzamt Linz (AUT), the Totatoga Cultural Cluster in Busan (KOR), and the Sasso Residency in Vairano (CHE).

Christine Brey – Beteiligung an der Gruppenausstellung RESONANCE (21.08.-13.11.2025) im Raum THE SPACE (geöffnet Mi-Sa, 12:00-18:30 Uhr)
.
Künstler:innen: Anna Bochkova, Christine Brey, Sarice Brudet, Simon Hehemann, Helen Hu, Julian Kerkoff, Inna Levison, Shinoh Nam, Julia Nordholz, Robin Rhode, Thomas Scheibitz, The Schmidt, Stefan Wiens
.

Doch was erwartet uns wirklich dort draußen?
— Christine Brey
