‘Chestnut Street’ 🏠
2025 F.I.N.E Artist In-Residence @pghkids

Loved being a part of this cohort and getting to make this piece for permanent installation at the Pittsburgh Children’s Museum 💚 Always inspired by the stories, parts and pieces of my parents’ journeys to America.

‘Chestnut Street’ is inspired by the artist’s visits to her hometown to see family. An overhead-view diorama is made out of figurines and toy pieces reminiscent of childhood board games, dollhouses, and model train sets. Photographs throughout feature her mom’s family from China, her dad’s family from Russia and Ukraine, and childhood memories with her brother in America.

‘Colors of Collaboration’
These colorful artworks were made by fourteen artists in the 2025 F.I.N.E. Art Residency at the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh. Each artist received the same frame and was given one color to work with. They created an artwork using only tints and shades of that color, in any material or style they liked. The colors included the 12 basic hues from the color wheel, plus black and white. taken in Children's Museum of Pittsburgh by @salsaschwartz

This week, we're delighted to be featuring the work of local artist Sasha Jin Schwartz! Read more about her work below:

Sasha Jin Schwartz is a freelance theater scenic designer and visual artist living in Pittsburgh, PA. Reused materials and found objects are particularly valuable to her, both in her fine art and spatial design practices. Her understanding of space, memory, and how and where we feel 'at-home' is shaped heavily by her mixed immigrant family. She holds a BFA from Carnegie Mellon School of Drama and is a proud teaching artist with Pittsburgh Center for Creative Reuse. Her design work has been featured locally at City Theatre, Pittsburgh Public Theatre, Quantum Theatre, Kelly Strayhorn, and Pittsburgh Playhouse. Her fine art work has been exhibited locally at Children's Museum of Pittsburgh (F.I.N.E. Artist-In-Residence), Brew House Arts, and Jaded PGH. Her collages often feature the original artwork of her brother Alexander Schwartz (alexanderschwartzart.weebly.com). The shop is an essential resource for sourcing set and prop supplies, pieces to make scale models, and inspiration for found-art assemblages. She feels so fortunate to be a part of the Creative Reuse community of artists, teachers, and dear friends.
