Seeds of WOWEO surfaced at Hatch’s River Mountain Retreat in 2022. In 2024, thanks to the extraordinary @adilman @hatch.arts.collective, the work officially began taking shape in Hatch’s Nest Residency at @inter_pgh. What started with vocal experiments, writing, movement, & explorations of grief & joy has grown into a multidisciplinary performance weaving remembrance of my father, adoption and the complexities of early separation, alongside humor & celebration. We’re 8 days from our premiere with lead presenter - longstanding and beloved @josephdanielhall @kstheater and I’m feeling immense gratitude for the journey that has brought us here: 4 residencies & in-process showings across PGH & NYC, community events, support of Hatch, KST, @centerfornewwork @nefa_1976 @npnarts & the incredible artists, collaborators, presenters, & audiences who have nurtured this work. As the project has grown, so has the team around it, with longtime collaborators & new creative partners each bringing their artistry, perspectives, and care to the process. I’m so grateful to everyone who has supported the work as I’ve ventured into singing, storytelling, & solo performance—new and often scary territory. WOWEO holds many things at once: grief & joy, longing & connection, remembrance & possibility. I’m excited to share what we’ve made with you❤️ Premiere October 23-24 at KST 🌌 PREMIERE ARTISTIC TEAM Creator/Performer: Maree ReMalia Co-director: Adil Mansoor Sound Design: David Bernabo Garment Design: Rona Chang @ottofinn Media Design: Kolton Cotton Producer: Sarah Ashley Cain Dramaturg: Jenny Johnson Props & Set Dressing Artisan: Katie Mikula-Wineman Scenic Design: Sasha Jin Schwartz Stage Manager: Ian Thomas Assistant Director: Iliana Tomasa Sharp Lighting Design: Nicole White ADDITIONAL ARTISTS Developmental Props Assistant: Sydney de Haan Assistant Technical Director: James Eaton Karaoke Consultant: Eben Hoffer Vocal Coaches: Jisook Kim, Lisa Velton Smith, Kara Staiger, Micaela Tobin @white_boy_scream Artistic Consultant: Michael J. New episode 🎙️ We got Nathan Renner-Johnson and Sasha Jin Schwartz to break down what actually makes a theater set happen. Nathan runs Philadelphia Scenic Works, the nation’s first nonprofit scene shop, essentially a shared resource pool so theaters don’t literally dumpster their sets after one run. Sasha’s a freelance set designer who once toured a show with every actor’s costume packed into their own suitcase to dodge shipping costs. Also, Nathan showed up with a gift bag of mini espresso martinis mid-recording, so this one ranks up there in terms of recording session fun. 🍸🎭 Follow @itsnaterj @phlscenicworks @salsaschwartz #PhillyHasHeart #PhiladelphiaScenicWorks #PhillyTheater #SetDesign #PhillyPodcast
