📣 SaltSpace is delighted to announce ‘Neurotic Creatrix', a solo exhibition by Romy Cooper.

📅 Opening Event: 8th October 18:00 - 21:00

Exhibition Dates: 9th - 11th October 11:00 - 17:00

📍 SaltSpace Gallery, 38 Albert Road, Glasgow, G42 8DN

EXHIBITION STATEMENT:

Neurotic Creatrix is a multidisciplinary exhibition exploring the paradoxical nature of femininity within contemporary society, questioning what is deemed ‘natural and authentic’ versus what is ‘artificial and constructed’ and how they can be interwoven within one another. The title serves as an oxymoron: the Creatrix represents a highly autonomous, generative female creator, while Neurotic acknowledges the systemic anxiety and volatility imposed upon her.
The work plays with this uncertainty through the use of contrasting materials, such as wire, wool, and latex, across sculpture and photography, using self-portraiture to intertwine personal experiences and raw reflections onto these themes.

📣 SaltSpace is delighted to announce ‘[Not] a Fairy Tale', a group exhibition curated by Alexandra Orlova.

📅 Opening Event: 30th September 18:00 - 21:00

Exhibition Dates: 1st - 3rd October 14:00 - 18:00

📍 SaltSpace Gallery, 38 Albert Road, Glasgow, G42 8DN

EXHIBITION STATEMENT:
This project studies how imagery can create its own narratives in an exhibition space.

The classical structure of a fairy tale often offers the reader a happy ending for the main hero after the hero faces certain trials. In a book, we usually see a typical visual story in which imagery accompanies the text.

[Not] a Fairy Tale exhibition explores what can stand behind an image as a source of inspiration for an artist: certain text, cultural code, traumatising events, etc. This way, the narrative that stands behind the image moves from the foreground to the background.

This creates a space between what is seen and what is imagined. An image can appear familiar while carrying a completely different personal or cultural meaning. A seemingly simple visual element can become a reference to a much larger story, while an apparently narrative image may refuse to reveal its full context.
The exhibition thus proposes an alternative way of approaching images: not simply as representations of something, but as places where stories accumulate. Some of these stories are visible, while others remain hidden beneath the surface. The viewer becomes an active participant in uncovering these layers, moving between what the image shows and what it might suggest.

Artists: Iaroslava Murashko, Mila Rosha, Maria Saukhina, Aaron Smyth, Lena Zinski
Curator: Alexandra Orlova
