Daffodil turned 4 yesterday. 4 years of living with my soulmate & my best friend.

I got Daffodil right when my Saturn return started, and my life had completely fallen apart — I lost a long term partner and a dog (a whole family if you think about it!) And I was aimless and confused and scared and very demoralized.

I adopted her in the dead of winter, 2022, against everyone’s recommendation. “Don’t get a cattle dog,” they said, “You won’t be able to manage her,” they said, “She is a working dog who belongs on a farm!” They said, “Veronica, your life is falling apart and you are on the brink of mental collapse and you are getting a cattle dog puppy?” they said!!!!

Well guess what? Daff & I changed each other’s lives. She’s not a farm dog. She’s got other jobs: River Rat. Cat Lifeguard. Neighborhood Watch. Fun Police. Camping & hiking mule (she has to carry her own food!). And when I’m bored kayaking, I make her paddle!

I’d be remissed & she’d be pissed if I didn’t mention her full time job (40+ hours/week, horrible benefits, not salaried), My Best Friend. It’s tireless! All day and all night she loves me. Shes saved my life more than once. She teaches me new things every day. We guide each other, and I demand at least 10 more years. She’s my #1, and I truly cannot imagine any future without her. I don’t remember how I got along without her before. by @saltbreadroses

Pride month in harrisburg is special because it actually lasts two (2) months. Here’s what happened: Justin aged. Cam aged. Maryam aged. Lots of Gemini/Cancer situationships aged, and we didn’t even hit leo season yet. I am doing a lot of habitual every day work. Kate is a midwife, after 2 years of hard work. She raised two pre-school-aged boys, started a tool library with me, worked, and, as of this month, officially passed her board exam.

Every day, tool library requires continuous work to make it operable and sustainable for future generations. Every day, my nonprofit & grassroots clients are moving toward self sustainability and empowerment. Every day, i am writing or cooking, or working, or training daffodil, or loving my friends, or going to the gym. I’m getting stronger. I can lift a lot of weight. More than i could last year. Kayaking against the Susquehanna current feels a little easier this summer. Not getting to the woods as much as I’d like but that’s okay, because we really can’t do it all. I’m learning temperature regulation as a skill living without AC this summer and it’s one of the most beneficial skills i’ve learned so far in my life.

I am working quietly on a lot of things at once. It’s a lot of work, but i can’t wait until you see the results.

Hi I am challenging myself to live without air conditioning this year and if I make it through this week, I think I can give up air conditioning forever. I am doing this for no other reason except I always suspected that air conditioning was oppressive & I am looking to confirm that suspicion & also because it’s fun to try new things that are hard

Gratitude overlaps with presentness I think. Or maybe it’s gratitude that makes being present more tolerable, even joyful. Or maybe it’s that it’s almost impossible to be ungrateful when you’re paying deep, close attention. It’s in the patterns that turn out to be millions of tiny miracles. by @saltbreadroses
