The Field Dress & Garden Tank Top with Ankle Warmers

This final look suggests the peak of new growth, the flower that has bloomed, the fields of green full and abundant; an abundance and fullness that has been built upon your base, grounding yourself.

This look has delicate beading, crochet elements, and buttons, that emphasize the beauty in the details when you look close enough. This layered look ties fabric from the Breaking Ground and Finding Myself looks, and the brightest fabric throughout the entire collection symbolizing a connection to one’s completeness-the beginning, gradual steps, and fulfillment of your journey.

This look is made from a preowned tank top and vest, preowned fabric, preowned skirt, and secondhand fabric, yarn, and beads.

Finding Myself Dress

This look represents identity exploration through the collective growth and fusion of each part of ourselves.

This look hosts a multitude of fabric patterns, shapes, and textures, with an overall dainty and graceful look—a symbol of how we pull ourselves together through it all.

This look is made from preowned pillow cases and pillow shams, a preowned vest and shirt, and secondhand fabric, trim, and vintage fabric sample.

Earth Angel Top & Sunlight Skirt

Model: @beastly_cynthia
HMU Artist: @shellsbells.png

This look represents continual growth, establishment, and nourishment.

This look hosts a lot of intricacy in its fabric patterns and crochet stitches. The beads on the skirt, within the crochet rose, and the golden angel, symbolize the beauty in the intricacies and comparably mundane of repetition and consistency.

This look is made from preowned pants and belt, pieces from two preowned shirts, shoulder pads, preowned fabric, yarn, preowned valance, secondhand beads and buttons, and a vintage earring.

This next look marks the start of the phases of growth, this being the new beginning. Each following look represents progression and entering a new stage of transformation.

This look is primarily dark with hints of color peaking through and making their way to the surface.

This look is made from 2 preowned skirts, yarn, and lace. The necklace is made from crocheted wire, yarn, vintage earrings, and a preowned charm.

Spark Top & Skirt

This next look represents the catalyst for change, the fire that sparks disruption and necessary rebuilding.

The asymmetry and use of mixed patterns, colors, and materials, symbolize the chaos that comes with the beginning stages of transformation—you don’t know what’s right, you are starting anew.

This look is made from a preowned tank top, cardigan, scrap fabric, and macrame cord.

“Oh my love!” Jacket and Skirt

Model: @milohangeli
HMU Artist: @shellsbells.png
Photos: @brisalaz

I made this outfit earlier this year, but I chose for it to begin my new mini collection of growth, emergence, and renewal.

Its the epitome for me of my personhood, a base, a starting point, the fundamental substance — where I am secured in myself, comfortable, eccentric, cautiously presenting my heart, organized and disorganized.

This look is made from secondhand fabric, a tshirt made into yarn, and a pair of jeans.

What is transformation to me? I believe it’s changing for the better and becoming ready to face what’s next.

How do you begin change? Turning to your fundamental self.

Designer Spotlight ✨
Briana Salazar is a native New Mexican who has been driven by creativity from a young age. Upon exploring fashion design, Briana experienced the satisfaction of true artistic expression where her illustrative ideas could be materialized into a physical form and displayed as a token of individuality. In February of 2023, she began her fashionable art under the name Salvaged Nostalgia, defining her work by the transformation of secondhand materials through sewing and crocheting. Her fashion designs aspire to draw from the surreal aesthetics of nature and act as a reflection of individual identity. Her designs have layered meaning due to the history of the textiles and materials she uses.
