Spark Top & Skirt Model: @brisalaz MU Artist: shellsbells.png Photos: @beastly_cynthia This next look represents the catalyst for change, the fire that sparks disruption and necessary rebuilding. The asymmetry and use of mixed patterns, colors, and materials, symbolize the chaos that comes with the beginning stages of transformation—you don’t know what’s right, you are starting anew. This look is made from a preowned tank top, cardigan, scrap fabric, and macrame cord. #salvagednostalgia #upcycledfashion by @brisalaz
Made this patch in honor of the cluster balloon that took on the Albuquerque skies for the first time at this year’s International Balloon Fiesta! I think this is one of the absolute coolest balloons and its such a treat to welcome to New Mexico this year. Especially thinking about it as the real life “Up” balloon! The balloons on this patch are buttons covered in scrap fabric :) 🎈 #salvagednostalgia #balloonfiesta by @brisalaz
the color in my life Through it all, sometimes your actions feel hopeless and you question, what's the point? In these times, you search for the simplest form of your sense-of-self and find your initial passion stems from your love for the world and humanity. Reflection exposes purity and beauty, as well as imperfections. This dress highlights a daintiness and ethereal beauty that signifies a new start, an epitome of everything that you love, an indestructible feeling of hope, and clarity. The fullness of the skirt with corset bodice accentuates a regal quality. Dress made from Foam, Various plastics, Paper, Macrame cord, Wire, Dried pressed flowers, and a Gravel/concrete bag. The environment in the portrait includes an antique, family-owned vanity haloing a self-reflection and holding sacred treasures on its shelves. The photograph in the background is a chaste tree from my backyard with an insect on the blooms. The contrasting softness of the pink and white blooms and green leaves with the dark background and insect juxtaposes the gentle nature of the portrait and the profoundness of self-reflection. Without introspection, you can never really act with true intention. True passion is fueled by love and hope for more and it is necessary to remember why you are striving for change. elegant waste Reimagining what we throw away. You begin to develop the realization of what you can do, and your maturity progresses as you continue to explore ideas. Your discovered practice strives to reimagine and transform the perceived identity of materials. Along the way, you redefine your own identity and how you see the world. Headpiece and dress made from Trash bags, Electrical tape, Wire, scrap Tulle, Plastic grocery bags, and Safety pins. The environment in the portrait is a glowing window in my plant room with my parlor palm and coin-leaf peperomia. The photograph in the background is the desert landscape in the New Mexico mesa behind my house. The plants of the outside mesa and my indoor plants find themselves beside each other in this composition, coalescing. In this elegant look, all forces of nature become fused. The angelic silhouette for this mini-dress instills confidence in the wearer and allows playful defiance. The head-piece calls to mind the vintage head-pieces of the roaring 20's and beyond, corresponding with a mysterious yet enticing identity by the wearer. It becomes possible that "waste" can be beautiful or, at the very least, more than trash. Portrait 4/5 Everything you wear has meaning. #EarthPartner2026 @artpartner #salvagednostalgia by @brisalaz
dressed in news Once you are exposed to new thoughts, it’s difficult to think about anything else. With each passing day, the need to take action grows. Wearing newsprint is a constant reminder of the state of the world. Hat and top made from Newspaper, Coffee filters, Wire, and Cardboard. The environment in the portrait is my dining table dressed with my sewing machine and books--resources for developing projects and experimentation. The photograph in the background is plants near a rock in a natural scene at a site in New Mexico. The bright color of the natural elements contrasts with the neutral tones of the portrait suggesting a duality but imminent means of connection. Business attire, inspired by a suit jacket, that invites a workload and an authentic passion for getting things done. The newsboy cap nods at an unstoppable drive. denim gardener entranced by transparency As you grow, you want to know more. You don’t realize your identity changing as your perspective expands because you are too allured by the pursuit of knowledge. Transparency is being called on by reality and it’s not always easy to face. Headpiece, neck piece, top, glove, and skirt, are made from Denim, Belts, Shower liner, and Wire. The environment in the portrait is my backyard with plants that are beginning to flourish. The photograph in the background is the clouded and vivid blue sky. The ethereal sky calls on the gaze of a curious mind. Embraced by denim in a design that invites activeness and provides a sense of protection, the glimmer of the transparency from the shower liner allures, though it is more revealing. The design elements of asymmetry, multi-facets in the garment designs themselves and the overall multi-piece look, and stark dual-color dichotomy, emphasize a complex, yet universal identity and more everyday wearable look. my cup of coffee tells me how to build my life with legos Yay, it’s done! The finished Lego set is accompanied by the plastic bags, the box, and the manuals; pondering, sipping the cup of coffee made from the last of the grounds, the possibilities are endless. Time for a cup of tea. The journey of self-discovery begins at childhood. Characterized by naivete and infinite ideas, nothing seems impossible and everything seems magical. Dress and hat made from Coffee bags, Duct tape, Brown paper bags, Lego manuals, Shower liner, and Scrap fabric. The environment in the portrait is cozy and whimsical like childhood. The photograph in the background is a close-up shot of my indoor geranium plant's blooms. The vibrant blooms call upon the start of something beautiful. This design evokes the naivete of childhood and the essence of new beginnings with characteristics like a babydoll dress length, big sleeves, cartoonish silhouette, and vibrant colors. Everything you wear has meaning. I am very excited to share this project as I have explored internally my passion for designing, photography, writing, modeling, image architecture, and sustainability and environmental impact. This series of portraits are the first in my portfolio that I have truly orchestrated and given myself the space to feel comfortable in front of the camera. Wearing designs made fully out of unconventional and thrifted materials, these looks explore my vision and goal as a designer: REIMAGINING. These 5 looks, in addition to my growing collection of garments, strive to instigate a mindset of renewal and transformation. I want us to allow ourselves to break down what we have always known and allow for the rebuilding of new ideas and perspectives. I believe fashion is one of the greatest tools to present ideas of change because we have the opportunity to present them on our physical being, as a symbol to society. Throughout it all, I want to emphasize the relationship overtime with individual identity and the overwhelming hope and journey to making an impact. #EarthPartner2026 @artpartner #salvagednostalgia by @brisalaz
