In April 2026, 250 young people from 12 countries gathered in African Leadership University @alueducation , Kigali for BIMUN Rwanda.

We came to debate, negotiate and build solutions. Before any of that, we had to sit with where we were.

The conference took place during Kwibuka32, the period when Rwanda remembers the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. More than a million lives were taken in about 100 days. Many of the people who carried that loss are still here, rebuilding the country we were guests in.

So we paused.

One by one, our keynote speakers and secretariat leadership were called forward to light a candle. No speeches. No applause. Just names being called and flames being lit.

The room went quiet in a way none of us expected. Delegates who had met only hours earlier were standing together, holding the same silence. Nobody needed translation for it.

For many of us, it was the most important session of the entire conference. It reminded us why diplomacy matters, and what happens when the world looks away.

We remember. We stand with Rwanda. Never again.

Ten years of BIMUN.

In 2016, alongside a team of brilliant friends in Babcock, I started the Babcock International Model United Nations with a conviction that has never changed: every young person, regardless of their financial background, deserves the same opportunity to learn leadership, practice diplomacy, and lead rooms. Talent is spread evenly across this continent. Opportunity is what I and my team set out to build around Africa.

Ten years later, BIMUN has trained over 6,450 delegates drawn from 28+ countries. Some of them now work in foreign ministries, international organizations, law firms, and newsrooms. That was always the point. My commitment has been to raising global giants, young people prepared to hold their own anywhere in the world, no matter where they started from. I have lived it. Taught it. And I love it.

This year, we took BIMUN across a border. For our 10th anniversary, we delivered the conference in Kigali, Rwanda, hosted at African Leadership University, with delegates converging from 12 nations. The critical path ran through dependencies outside our control: ALU partnership, group booking windows, and group immigration clearance. Our risk register flagged accommodation early, because we had to commit before final headcount was confirmed. We built the schedule on contingency rather than best-case assumptions, developing strategies to navigate late-stage change requests, and kept universities, airlines, embassies, and parents informed at every decision gate. We delivered on schedule, within budget, with no delegate incidents.

The ten years have not been smooth. We have negotiated with airlines, banks, universities, and governments. I have supervised budget rebuild mid-conference, faced and crossed COVID year, and defended the vision in rooms where nobody believed a student-founded conference could last. As life threatening as each year appeared to be, I am happy we went through it because it taught us lessons no classroom could.

To every delegate, official, volunteer, parent, school, organization, partner, and friend who trusted this platform: who gave us a chance: who believed in us: THANK YOU.

2024: “What exactly is a caucus?” 😭

2026: “Honourable delegates, the floor is now open.” 😏🎤

Somehow, I went from being the delegate of Japan at BIMUN 2024 to returning two years later as Vice-Chair of the UNESCO Committee at BIMUN 2026.

And honestly? What a full-circle moment.

In 2024, I came in knowing next to nothing about diplomacy. Then Mr. @stevebayor , my Chair, gave us pre-conference training that completely changed the way I approached the conference.

I researched. I wrote speeches. I spoke A LOT. 😂
I even started calling countries out for their policies.

Japan was apparently everybody’s problem that year. 🇯🇵😭

I left with being the Best Delegate and, more importantly, a new love for diplomacy and MUN.

Two years later, I found myself on the other side of the dais.

This time, my job was to help 52 delegates navigate the same experience that once opened the door for me.

And watching them go from “please don’t call on me” to “POINT OF INFORMATION!” was easily one of my favourite parts of BIMUN 2026.🥹

I’m incredibly grateful to my Chair, @dudurewa_ , for trusting me with the opportunity to lead UNESCO alongside her.

And to Mr. @stevebayor and Mr. @sam.chiemela , thank you for being such important parts of my BIMUN journey.

Funny how one conference can introduce you to a whole new version of yourself.

Two years later, I came back to help someone else find theirs.

BIMUN NIGERIA 2026. ❤️🇺🇳

Imagine a place where you have a chance to speak about global issues, a place where you get to build your diplomacy and public speaking skills, a place where you get the opportunity to meet over 500 new people from Nigeria and even other countries (you never know if you could meet the next president of a country🌚), a place where there's a perfect blend of work and play so you don't become a "dull boy," a place where you get to brainstorm on resolution to these global issues and actually present them before a General Assembly
A place where you gain a world-class certificate even just for participating
Would you love to attend?

That's exactly what BIMUN is!

BIMUN — Babcock International Model United Nations — is an annual international conference hosted by Babcock University where students simulate the United Nations.
In simple terms, it’s where young people act as diplomats, represent different countries, and debate real global issues like climate change, security, human rights, and development. You speak, negotiate, form alliances, and work together to draft solutions just like world leaders do.
But BIMUN is more than debate. It’s a space to build confidence, improve public speaking, sharpen research skills, meet people from different schools and countries, and grow as a leader. It challenges you to think globally and act responsibly.
So basically, BIMUN is where future leaders are trained through diplomacy, discussion, and collaboration.
