Meet Samaquias Lorta, artist in residence at ONSITE Immersion 2026: interdisciplinary artist whose work bridges ecological thought, mental health, and identity, deeply influenced by personal experiences of loss, perseverance and poverty. Within this exploration Samaquias has found live-performance to be the rooting of this exploration often building feedback systems alongside graphic notation to depict these narratives. Lorta’s most recent works include original compositions and performances with Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin (2022, 2024), Sound Director for permanent installations with Po:era Collective at Bruecke Museum + Kesselhaus Herzberg Museum, featured artist at Manifest:IO, and the most recent composition releasing on the label re:natura titled Soil & Spirits (available on Bandcamp, 2025 1st 📷: OIIA @OIIA.ART botanical centerpiece: Chiara Philips @chi.lime Second image: a glimpse from Sam’s time at ONSITE. by @samaquiass

☀️ Our Summer Series continues with the third workshop, presented by Echospheric & Acker Stadt Palast. Performance Lab is a series of workshops and mentorship sessions designed to give you the tools to perform your own sound performance on stage. Over the course of three workshops and a mentorship day, the program culminates in a live public showcase at Acker Stadt Palast, giving you the stage to share your experiment with an audience. Workshop 3 | 29/08 Case Studies on Instrument Building The possibilities in sound art are arguably its defining feature. Toys, tools, cables, resonators, amplifiers, chips, and the vast array of gadgets let us shape the sonic stories we want to tell. This workshop will explore various artist setups to discover different paths to instrument building. By dabbling in the toolkits of these artists, one can find endless possibilities for creating sound. Students can expect both theoretical analysis and hands-on examples. This workshop is led by Samaquias Lorta. Over the course of three specialised workshops and a dedicated mentorship day, this series guides participants through composing, building and dramaturgy their own sound work. Etikett will be premiering the release of Detritum, a community created album facilitated by artists of re:natura @sound.re.natura We invite audiences to tune in over stream or attend our listening session in-person on Saturday 25 July from 15:00 - 18:00. (secret location, please e-mail re:natura for RSVP) Starting in the fall of 2025, Detritum was conceived as a community production: Each artist received a specific recording from a place of biological decay. In a collaborative decomposition, these recordings served as a starting point for individual exploration and communal exercise. /// Listening Session 25.07 - 15:00 (email for location) The listening session invites audiences to witness the presentation of Detritum both online and in-person. Various forms of pressure and erosion will be applied to the limited print vinyls throughout the session creating another layer to the degradation process. Interludes will take place throughout giving room for artists to provide context behind their production while being available to the audience for questions.
