Life has been a biiiit hectic lately, but I wanted to (finally!) share some highlights from our trip to Washington state last month!

I’m proud of both Auggie and myself for ways we challenged ourselves with new (and scary!) things & for myself for learning to listen to my body more ❤️‍🩹

THE COOLEST GRAPHIC NOVEL ABOUT SERVICE DOGS!!! It’s written by a SD handler (and his service dog tehe), both about their experience and some history on service dogs 🥹

We saw the live action Moana ((‘: this is a very special movie (Moana in general really!), since I was adopted from an island in the South Pacific ❤️‍🩹

I was VERY impressed with the accessibility in this movie theatre! They had options for close-captioning & audio descriptions for example!!! I was so excited to have the close-captioning because the sound intensity of seeing a movie in a theatre is what usually keeps me from going, even if there’s something I really would LOVE to see. This way, I was able to wear my noise canceling headphones while still being able to know what’s said. They even had the lyrics for the Polynesian languages, which was so amazing (‘: the Midwest movie theatres could really learn a thing or two from this one!

The weather was sooooo beautiful and getting to touch moss with our paws (tehe) felt very healing 🥹

We definitely got looked at funny sometimes when people drove by us just sitting (not stuck in my phone) outside on our fave hill 😂 living in a state that’s flat an cornfieldy, being surrounded by the WA scene was so heavenly and serene! Witnessing people in the neighborhood’s reactions to me helped me see it’s amazing the things we take for granted when we see them every day 😭

the past month was so healing in so many ways ❤️‍🩹

spending time with this 🌻soul sister🌻 of mine for this long after not seeing eachother since Thanksgiving 2024 was so very much needed. from days we would spend hours on FaceTime (welll Skype buttt) when we were both in verrrrry different situations/environments to getting to spend hours together in PERSON was so special—nostalgic in some way, despite it being the longest we’ve ever spent irl 🥺

having sooo much stunning nature so accessible was a literal breath of fresh air 😮‍💨 how refreshing to be able to feel moss with my feet, to see deer walking through the yard I sat in, to finding the best rocks ever, this unrushed few weeks freed little parts of me that I didn’t even know existed 🤍

i’m so thankful to be able to feel closer to God in such a beautiful, intentionally detailed piece of His creation 😭 collecting memories may be difficult for my brain, but collecting moments & emotions isn’t ❤️‍🩹

Amy Jo, i truly do thank God for you daily & feel so lucky for the extra (!) time we’ve been gifted 🥰 i love you to you know where times 5 ❤️‍🩹🌻🍄

to think that the last time we wore these hats together, we held up a mini one to your belly (‘: and now the mini hat fits on a smol human who enjoys patting hiiiiis belly 🤭

how peaceful to get to spend exploration time, just how i loved to when i was growing up (with the addition of this beautiful friend!) ❤️‍🩹

with energy limited, here’s a lil compilation of our life lately 🤌🏾

to sum everything up, the past few weeks have included appointments, snuggles, fun outings, real-life training, appointments, sleeping, life, nature, cute things, OH and appointments 😏💅👀

Very grateful to have seemingly found a combo of medications (overall) that’s been keeping symptoms more controlled and manageable—what a gift it is to be able to be able to be a part of more of life 😂

Lately, I’ve been allowing myself to use more accommodation tools for myself (like my noise cancelling headphones!) in public. I used to be embarrassed about needing to use them for sensory reasons when most other people I encounter won’t be wearing any. However, I’ve been learning that it truly is okay to give myself permission to accommodate myself. That’s been a different (yet cool and freeing) change to introduce lately AND interesting to learn that I don’t actually need to apologize for different tools I may need to use in order to get through the day.

I feel like Auggie and I have both gotten a lot better at communication and we feel like more of a true team (cohesively) recently than previous months, which brings me a lot of comfort.

We’re now going to be preparing for a sleep study that I have (HOPEFULLY MY LAST EVER) in a few weeks & I’m just praying for some sort of actual answer.

I know I can only take one day at a time, so for now, I’m going to take comfort in the improvements and growth that I’ve noticed lately & stop to smell as many flowers as possible 🥰 (I actually do stop every single time I see flowahs, assuming I have time! Whichhh even if I’m running short on time I usually probably stop anyways 🤭)

Thank you so much to everyone who’s wished me a happy birthday & helped me feel so loved & celebrated! 🤗

Growing older is wild…the way that nobody usually ever feels “older & wiser” (and the way I wasn’t even for sure what age I was turning this year 🙃), yet time still commences.

My birthday is feeling more and more like just another day, which I’m not as upset about as I might have felt a few years ago. It feels freeing to not be so bound by what I want for my birthday & making lists, sending links, etc, but instead full of gratitude for the thoughtful things (like the surprise balloon bouquet for example! Thank you @amyjoelle22 🥲!)

I have to remind myself often that I’m not “behind,” despite not being where others my age (and younger) are. This year I’ve gotten a lot of practice leaning back into the fact that God’s timeline is what I’m on. It’s been a true test of patience & trusting that there’s a reason for every waiting moment. I’ve spent an unreasonable amount of time, previously, trying to rush diff milestones to happen (in turn rushing God oop). Waiting for what I’ve yearned for for awhile now can be uncomfy, but I’ve learned from experience that landing where I’m not supposed to be (yet or maybe ever) can leave me with more cramps & bruises than I could ever wish for.

Sooo as I add more days to the calendar that I’ve lived already, I rest in how God hasn’t brought me to where I thought I’d be because He knows that there are pivotal moments that’ll help me be more prepared for the future that’s EVEN BETTER for me than I could currently imagine. ❤️‍🩹🥺🌻 by @samarajaneyr

three (!?!!) whole (!?!!) years (!?!?!!!) with one whole incredibly hepful helper boi 🥰

Being able to even have my service dog in the first place is an incredible blessing of a reality that I’m often still in awe about. The fact that Auggie started off in a puppy mill situation, yet was clearly created to be a service dog (*my* service dog?!) is something I marvel about a lot. I feel so 🍀lucky😘 to be able to have gotten to add this kind sir to my treatment team (and to my lil family🥲) and have the intention to be intentionally grateful for any and all time with him (why can’t dogs life forever?!!) ❤️‍🩹

In order to show every single experience/moment/AUGventure from the past 3 years, I’d have to make a short film of sorts 🤭 so this 27 seconds documents just a couple!

Flareups and being symptomatic is less than a swell time, but Auggie helps everything feel not quite as heavy (thank you Jesus!) 😭

Thank you to @fullservicecanine_southnj & @valiant_k9 for being our matchmakers 🥹 and for @the_distracted_dog for some additional guidance since Auggie came home! 🙏🏽

to my sunflower friend…

I’m unsure how it’s already been a whole trip around the sun since you weren’t in need of oxygen anymore. Since then, I took pictures (almost) every time I saw something that reminded me of you (typically sunflowah related) 🌻 Each photo in this post that you aren’t in is one of those moments 🩷

I came upon some memories that I’d completely forgotten about & the first thing I wanted to do was show them to you.

Around this time last year, I was listening to the same book I am now—there’s a character called Irene & she’s a healer. I think about little parts of me healed bit by bit, simply because you cared, loved, lived.

I miss you & I love you achingly—oh, what I would give to get boba with you, to sit outside in the sun or listen to music with you, to wear our comfy matching jumpsuits together, to give you a big hug just one more time 🤎

One day I will see you again…but until then, I want to fight like you did, to love & care like you did, to live like you did.

It seems that missing you hurts as much as it does because of how much you matter(ed) to me.

Next year, you can bet that I’ll have more pictures (that I’ll, once again, wish I could show you). I’m sending so much love & life your way…here’s to hope for the future, no matter how painful.

If only you could read these words…maybe one day 🫶🏾
