In December 1992, Greg and I traveled to Italy 6 months after the death of our 2-year-old son, Evan. The Christmas holidays were simply too painful to face without Evan so we escaped in the hope of finding solace somewhere. We arrived in Rome and slowly made our way up to Siena, a lovely Tuscan city where Greg had recently art directed photography for one of our clients. I was introduced to Greg’s friend, Antonio De Miccoli,a local butcher and shop owner who still sells the finest meats and cheeses in Siena.

While dining with Antonio, the subject of children came up and we had to explain that we had recently lost our son. With great sadness in his eyes and in an attempt to lift our spirits, Antonio softly said, “I have a very strong feeling that you will come back to Siena with another child. In fact, I believe you will return with 3 children!” We shook our heads, sadly doubting his well meaning words.

And yet life sometimes has a way of righting the wrongs; of turning a nightmare into an impossible dream. Antonio’s prediction became a reality and 3 years later we did return to Siena with 3 children - our young son and infant twin daughters.

Throughout the years, Antonio accompanied us to Modena, where we attended a Three Tenors concert. Antonio was with us as we cheered on our contrade at the dinner the night before the Palio. And he always welcomed our American friends when they arrived at his shop in Siena. It continues to be a beautiful 34-year-old friendship with this generous, kind man who we had the great fortune of meeting by chance in this enchanting country of Italy.❤️ taken in Siena, Toscana, Italy by @samatapat

Domino Sugar Refinery and Domino Park

Yesterday we visited this landmarked building that combines a glass office tower inside this historic brick facade. The Domino Park is on the East River side of the building. The building and park are located in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
