POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
This past week I had the honour to attend @iwi_indigenouswomeninindustry for the first time. Wow… it was something I truly needed. For real.
I was in a room filled with Indigenous women all doing, thinking, living creatively, leaders, setting an example and path for our future generations.

Ever since changing my career towards business I had been missing community so much. And I found it again 🄲

One of the biggest things I take away is that when Indigenous women lead, aaalllll of us come with them. We don’t lead thinking about just ourselves, we’re thinking about our family, our community, our culture, our traditions. Everythingggg comes with us. It’s wild.

Capitalism was built for personal gain. But this… this is not that. It’s taking care of each other. It’s seeing and wishing for each other to rise. Because when we do, we all elevate together.

The people I met I’ll forever hold in my heart. And you can read the different captions to know more.

Here with some key lessons those who’ve been in this industry for a long time want us younger gens to know:

We all need to heal and work on ourselves. We also need to know that not everyone can come with us. Lateral violence will be there but it is not for you to carry.

Community is everything. So open the doors for your people. Bring them with you. The knowledge, resources, and space is needed amongst your community.

Find out what your strengths are and own it. Love what you do. Everything gets easier when you do.

Be ambitious. During these times of increasing crises, the world needs us as indigenous women so much right now.

Don’t be afraid to step up there and make a difference. Believe. Don’t let your fears stop you.

This first pic feels so much like a family photo. Yupaychani to Jennifer, Paula, June, Crystal, and my family for all impacting me so wonderfully ā¤ļø

Paula Amos from BC Tourism. She actually met my family in Ecuador and I was finally able to meet her too! Such a beautiful soul!

Doreen Manuel, who my family has known since I was teeny weeny. So grateful for your friendship with us šŸ’

Amazing to meet Dawn Madahbee Leach who also went to Ecuador this past January and met my family and communi by @samay.c

Hace unas semanas mi vida cambió ✨
Firstly, thank you to all who saw me and believed in me when I decided to make this wild decision of leaving my main source of income in Video Design and installation to focus completely of my family’s business @pacha_arts. It sort of came out of the blue but when u have a career coach that’s amazing, life changes 😌 highly recommend consulting with one when ur not sure what to do!

I’m super proud to say I’m now in the Masters in Business Administration program at the University of New Mexico so that I can become a full fledged business owner who can make smart financial decisions and scale up our brand ā¤ļøā€šŸ”„

I’m actually really proud of myself for making all this happen. I already feel soooo much smarter learning about financial corporate accounting (ACTUAL SPREADSHEETS) to ethics in business to key points of assessment within operations management. The level up my brain is having feels SO GOOD šŸ”„

Financial literacy is something that is super important to me and I’ve always been interested in it. I’m actually pretty good at numbers and logical reasoning, hard facts, all that. And because historically our peoples don’t have access to this knowledge, I’m all about empowering us to be in a better financial position.

I remember when my old boss actually came with me to set up my first ever savings and investments accounts. Financial institutions scared the crap out of me so that changed my life and is allowing me to do what I’m doing now.

Anyways, yay me! 🌸 by @samay.c

Amongst the many things happening, this interview from Fall 2025 had slipped my mind and it was amazing to discover it once more in the past couple days.

Thank you @thetorontostar for featuring this little Mindalae family business @pacha_arts with big reach and big dreams. We’ve worked so so hard on this shop. As of 2020 I’ve actually taken the reins of it and have been turning it into a brand with absolutely no schooling or training on how the hell to do that. That’s about to change very soon!

It’s something I used to keep quiet while I publicly prioritized my design and video work. But now it’s flipping upside down and in the past year I’ve been embracing what it means to lead a family, a community, a business with goals that break literal barriers and pave paths that haven’t even been built yet.

This would only be possible with the hard work of my parents, allies and other southern natives who’ve never let go of who they are, regardless of being so far away.

Let’s start Leo season right šŸ˜Ž

Trying to recap the last 6 months in 20 fotos and I got to just the second half of it and not even caught everyone 😭 often I’m just focused on the moment and not on documenting it šŸ˜…

One thing that stood out to me is how grateful I am to have wonderful people in my life that I’ve been connected to for a long time OR are very new ✨ I’ve been going through lots of changes and they’re still rolling through, so this is literally just an itty bitty snippet of what I’ve been up to. And an itty bitty snippet of what’s to come.

As a mental side note: it’s my second year having an entire month in the middle of the gregorian calendar dedicated to spirit, cultural strengthening, community connection and ceremony for both myself and my beautiful wonderful partner Razelle. So I really have to figure out how to balance that with the requirements of modern living within capitalism šŸ˜®ā€šŸ’Ø deadlines and all that. I am sooo sorry if I’ve blanked on getting back to you and please remind me to do so if possible! šŸ˜… the western world has this all baked into holidays at the end of the year and we don’t have those privileges if we want to keep our cultures alive and participate in them 😭

Anyways, thank you to everyone who remains in my life ā¤ļø thank you to everyone who is ā€œnewā€. Thank you for growing with me and I’m so excited to get to grow with you too.

Con mucho cariño,

Today is a special day. Today, years ago, the old ones, the spirits, the clouds, and your ancestors met, collided, bringing into the world a special soul like no other. Her name is Razelle.
She’s beautiful, wonderfully unique, powerful, intelligent, big hearted and so much more.

I wish I had enough words to express the vastness of your spirit, the depth of your love, and so much more.

This time, words fall short. And instead, I focus on the little and big acts that show them.
Like when you brought me tea in a thermos when you picked me up at the station.
Like when you shot 3 incredible short vids for the store in 20 minutes.
Like you coming to my homelands to know who I am.
A thousand acts, day by day.

Gratitude just seems too small of a word. So, Yupaychani, Pilamayaye for all that you are. I can only continue to show you that gratitude for the rest of my life and beyond.

Hi World! We went on @etalkctv šŸ˜†šŸŽ‰ Speaking about our work is such a wonderful thing because we get to dive into the stories of our textiles, our culture, and our community collaborations.
@soniamangattv was SO amazing at helping us feel at ease, so incredibly culturally aware and just super sweet person 😭✨

This was very meaningful to us because Toronto is where we started. Being seen in the place that you’ve put your blood, sweat, and tears makes it all feel worth it. We put our manifestations out there and belief in our dreams coming true 😌

Loved the entire team at @etalkctv and cannot wait for the segment to air!

Tenga o no tenga.

Colonialidad y racismo amigx.

This video was made from being struck by pure inspiration. And I love it so much ā¤ļø

Many of you know I bead, but don’t really sell it often. I’ve always found it easier to trade or gift. I’ve been doing so since I was around 15 years old.
But I’ve recently made some career changes - stepping back from video design for a moment, to pursue something very meaningful which I’ll get into later ✨ it just means that I’m incredibly short on funds 😬

Making things with my hands has always been a form of sustaining myself and my family. This is what I was taught as Kichwa runa. As Mindalae (even before the creation of colonial borders) we’ve been doing it for generations and generations.

I was shooting some photos of these earrings I made and my love @razellebenally came to check out what I was up to.
I had found this lil desert bush and the sun was setting. She grabbed the camera and took some test shots and started playing around with them. She told me she could take some video of me wearing what I had made. I said I could do a voiceover talking about the design of the earrings. I wanted something slow and peaceful, to break the fastness of social media.

And so this little video was born from the spur of the moment. A visual poem made by both of us.

I think it’s super cute and sweet and powerful.
It’s so wonderful to feel free to play again. Thank you Razelle, for playing with me ā¤ļø

And also, if you read this far down, seriously. I need to sell these pieces to pay the bills šŸ”„ so please support!! Info on these earrings in my next 3 posts. And I’ll have more pieces to come in the next few weeks so stay tuned as I drop more photos and info of available pairs.

A result of patriarchy is that from a young age, women around the world are taught to be at the service of men first and foremost.
There is little space to feel empowered and often, when women and girls have that opportunity, that confidence gets shattered. ā€œYou’re not perfect enoughā€, is the message we receive.

And that’s changing bit by bit. For some, that confidence gets nurtured from an early age, for others, that confidence is earned back at a later stage in life. But hey, it’s better now than never.

And that’s what this video celebrates. Sure it’s to showcase these pretty new earrings on our website! But more than anything, this is the first shoot I’ve ever done where I’m not afraid to look pretty and to be proud of it. That it’s not scary. That being beautiful can look so many ways. And the way that I am is already wonderfully perfect ā¤ļø

You are your own wonderfully perfect, and I am SO proud of you for seeing that, even when it’s hard 🌸 by @samay.c

Hi everyone!!! I’ve been putting together a tiny collection bit by bit, knowing there’s some expenses I have that are going to be hard to cover. I made my classic floral design, inspired by the top I wear that is part of my traditional clothing 🌸 AND I’m super excited about these double sided beaded round drops that are super cute.

Okay everyone, I fully Virgoed so hard on this one and I love it so much šŸ˜Ž

Throughout the years, I was finding that in the non stop activity that is life, I had no idea where all my energy was going. I knew I was doing one thing after the other, burnout after burnout after burnout. Capitalism has us in the wheel running, running, running with no end.

I was also finding that I was forgetting that things like doing taxes, running bank errands, school paperwork, getting my new OHIP cause I lost it for the 4th time; all of that is WORK. So when I had a break from my paid job, and I’d finally do all those things, my rest time wasn’t actually rest. It was just me catching up with life. No wonder all of us are burnout central ✨

Putting where my energy actually goes on paper helps me IMMENSELY to figure out where I am at AND where I want to change. But honestly… more than anything this chart REMINDS me throughout the whole year, where my priorities are, and therefore… where my values are.

When I get lost and confused, I look at it as a place of grounding. If I feel like I’m useless and haven’t done anything, I look at it and say ā€œhey, Im doing this xyz thing that’s monumental because of xyz!ā€. Or if I feel like my spirit isn’t being nurtured I’m reminded: ā€œhey, I’ve been forgetting to pray everydayā€. Or if I feel like my body isn’t active I remember I can activate it through music.

This chart is super personal to you. So music for example, can be in your spirit quadrant, but at the same time, connected to all the other ones! Why? Cause nothing exists in a vacuum 😌

Anyways, hope you enjoyed my little series!! Should I do more?!

From me to you šŸ’› by @samay.c
