Back in 2019, my producing partner and I were asked to help write the press release for Romeo+Juliet w/ The Family Crest at The Den Theatre. PR asked for this because they couldn’t wrap their head around what it was.
Was it a play?
Was it a concert?
Was it a musical?
Was it dance?
Why on Earth is it only 3 nights (granted in a large 300 seat theatre that now houses comedian’s Netflix specials)?

Since we were co-collaborating with two larger names (the band and the theatre itself), and we were lo such babes on the Chicago scene thus far, we had to figure out how to describe who the hell we were when announcing our new collective next to some formidable entities.

We came up with “audacious newcomers”.
(It has a nice ring to it, doesn’t it?)

Genuinely proud of ourselves and this press release we spent hours crafting, we were told PR was removing audacious newcomers since (and I quote) “it sounds egotistical”.

Shocked at first, we turned it around and started calling ourselves “AUDACIOUS” at every turn.
In rehearsals.On the street.About each other.About ourselves.
Loud- for the whole world to hear.

For this 3 night run, we were told, “critics would never come out”, so they weren’t invited.
We were privvy to the number of tickets sold and the amount of marketing done, and it was bleak.
We were nervous at every turn about being the biggest flop the theatre had ever invested in.

Until we reclaimed AUDACIOUS.
And we decided to… what does Ted Lasso say? Oh yeah- BELIEVE.

I’ll save the longer story, but we sold out every seat, and audience members *still* message me about how much R+J meant to them.

Over the past 7 years, I lost my audaciousness, my blind ability to believe.
But today in meditation, I heard “Remember who you are. You are Sam fucking Bianchini”.

And here’s the thing… YOU are “(FirstName) fucking (LastName)”, too.
We are all god in drag, fabulous and flawed together.
And your joyful audacity doesn’t take away from mine. In fact, it encourages it.

A woman having audacity changes the tides, like the moon herself.
And calling a woman egoic… well, let’s think about who that benefits.

It’s a 🌕 in Aries.

If you’re like me, you might be feeling overwhelmed in the ocean of technology. I’ve often said “if my work didn’t depend on it, I wouldn’t be on social media”. I tend to like the analog. My teachings and songs and even my art in theatre lends itself to being live, felt, embodied, tramissioned.

Because of that, I’ve only allowed myself connection online in a certain fashion. But I recognize that there are so many ways to create connection and community that perhaps I’m depriving myself of. There may be new ways I start to show up and connect on these platforms that stays authentic to who I really am- and maybe it’ll feel fucking fantastic.

For now, though… I am so happy/lucky/honored/fired up with what I’m getting to do on this planet.  And I want to continue to work with you- to collaborate, to make art, to hold space with and for, to teach, to grow next to… you know, all the delicious things of being in this human body.

I’ve been thinking about currency in our modern world, and what it means to be wealthy, like, truly wealthy.

I am ever more increasingly abundant in the warmth and joy of a love so storybook AND human, it surpasses what tiny characters on a screen could convey.
Add a bonus small (not so small) person into the mix that I get to call step son? Get ready to be in the 1%.

I am wealthy beyond compare with community.
I am sickeningly full with the sweetness of the beauty of good food, good wine, and good adventure.

Did you know you can die from being so rich? It’s called owning a dog.
I’ve died a thousand times since having Guy and Buho.

If spirituality was measured by true pleasure in life (and I believe it is- come on, you can’t tell me the Big Bang wasn’t the Big Orgasm and that spirituality isn’t sensual when we have chocolate…), I’d burst at the seams.

If we were paid by the times someone said “you’ve changed my life”, well… I’d have more money than the goddess herself.

This is the truest currency, and it’s an act of resistance to all the bitter systems and bitter folks.

There’s too little time in this gorgeous existence to not be dripping in abundance, and I pray for us all to remove the shackles that keep us from dancing in the gold.

Two days late, but with all the heart…

Happiest of 8/8’s to the most handsome husband I could dream of.

Three years ago, our lives changed in a small patient room in San Gabriel.
Three years of being shook that love can feel like this.
Three years of joy and play and laughter and tears.
Three years of safety.
Three years of growth.
Three years of you.

I’m so glad I wasn’t asked to design my perfect partner.
They wouldn’t be anywhere as amazing as the real you.

You are the most devoted husband, father, friend, and dog owner.  Our community is beyond lucky.

To all the 8/8’s forever more, and finding you in all the realms after this.
