POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

When I was at Naropa, I wrote my thesis on the healing power of the voice, and how singing can restore our sense of wholeness and belonging. Using narrative portraiture, intimate portraits of several dear friends and colleagues alongside my own story, I explored how our practices with singing brought us into deeper, more compassionate relationship with ourselves and others.

Research shows that singing can support nervous system regulation and help with trauma, depression, and anxiety, and that it opens the way to greater self-expression and creativity. And of course, many people describe ineffable, even spiritual, experiences of singing.

I deeply believe in the transformative nature of singing.

Song, for me, has been a thread guiding me through the dark nights of the soul.
Song has expanded my capacity to hold love, rage, grief, and hope for the world.
Song has helped me trust myself more fully, and to fiercely protect and care for the tender parts of myself.
Song has invited me to soften and open to goodness.

Eventually I’d like to share more of what I’ve discovered about the transformative power of the voice. But lately, I’ve sensed that talking about benefits or optimization, even for healing, misses something important.

Singing is meaningful for its own sake.

Whether I’m singing in the shower, journeying through deep time in medicine ceremony, jamming around a fire, or making up nonsensical songs with friends, singing brings me pleasure and joy. It makes me feel more alive, wild, and free, more connected to vital life force.

In her poem “Invitation,” Mary Oliver writes of goldfinches who sing not to win anything but for sheer delight, glad “just to be alive on this fresh morning in the broken world.” I sense that what we need in these times, is to be so deeply nourished, to come so fully alive, to fall so completely in love with this world again, that we can hold space for the sorrows, move in compassionate, aligned action, and remember the simple wonder of being human together.

So if any part of you wants to explore singing with us at Song School, for any reason at all, you are so welcome. And I hope you’ll come, too, for your own pleasure and joy.

In THREE WEEKS TIME, my dear friend @samdarlin and I will be offering our second edition of Song School! So please consider this your official invitation to join us—from witchy Samhain 🐍 through Winter Solstice. ❄️

Song School was birthed out of our desire to share more widely many of the sacred songs we sing in together in ceremony— songs which have been so generously passed down to us from our beloved teachers, drawing from lineages around the world. And so it is with the deepest gratitude and greatest respect for these lineages and the lands from which these songs come that we invite you to gather with us and learn these songs.

I will be sharing more about Samhain (SAH-win) and Solstice, festivals that mark the turning of the seasons in the Celtic pagan wheel of the year, and how that will be woven into Song School. I’m also excited to say more about how my deepening love of mythology and folklore, folk herbalism and ethnobotany, and gathering in ritual and song can connect us to our vitality and with each other.

In the meantime, here are the deets:

🗓️ Nov 1 · Nov 29 · Dec 20
🕚 11am PST | 2pm EST | 7pm BST (Approx 90 min)

Song School includes:

✨ 3 LIVE online 90 minute classes over 3 months
✨ 12 songs shared
✨ Digital Songbook

All classes will be recorded for lifetime access and for those who cannot attend live.

Sliding scale: $99–$119 (alumni please reach out for special pricing)
Venmo: @sambianchini
PayPal: @samfbianchini@gmail.com

To register, please make payment & complete the Google form via the link in bio.

It would bring our hearts so much joy to share with you in ritual and song and community — and to connect with the sacred within.🕯️

THIS SUNDAY

Join international yoga teacher trainer and healer, Sam Bianchini, for an evening of Sacred Rest, called “Yoga Sleep”, (and more aptly translated to “to draw forth from the void”). Yoga Nidra is an ancient and deeply healing guided meditation that systematically relaxes the body and nervous system, and allows for the release of physical, mental, and emotional tension. Science can now study Nidra and see that just 30 minutes is equivalent to 4-8 hours of good sleep. It’s also been used throughout time to remember our true essence (called Smarana) and plant seeds of Sankalpa (our heart’s intention) for our lives and community. We will finish with Sam’s signature sound ceremony to truly descend into mystical bliss. Leave feeling clear, connected and filler with joy. NIdras are personally and lovingly written by Sam Bianchini.

Her name is MOTHER CLOWN and she’s my permission to be a gd fool. To ~play~ again (and not just in service of my kids)

After stepping away from theater, I got a serious job where I had to answer to very serious clients and send myself drafts of my super serious emails to make sure the formatting looked seriously flawless before I hit SEND.

Then 15 years later, sometime after 2 kids and when I started to have a little more room to breathe, I felt the call to get back to my own childlike wonder. To that good ol TOMFOOLERY 🌟

I’m so thankful to my friends who are cheering me on and saying YES. Keep going. Supporting me in my silliness. It means so much.

“Kinship” is defined as “the state of being related to others”

or

“a deep sense of connection or similarity between people who share common traits or experiences”

Here’s a few ways we experience “kinship” in our diverse community:

- Practicing postures to strengthen and open our bodies
- Practicing breath to soothe and develop an empowered connection to our nervous systems
- Sipping a warm tea or refreshing cup of electrolytes together in the lobby
- Witnessing each other with respect
- Being patient and understanding with each other in shared spaces (even the parking lot)
- Celebrating and supporting our neighbors 🌹

What are some ways you experience “kinship” with others?

Tomorrow night! It’s not always that you get to work on material that you really, deeply connect with, but man do I love this play. Come check us out! It’s a special piece ❤️ “When an elite Manhattan collector acquires the newest masterpiece by a celebrated artist, she expects a work that will change the art world forever. Its unveiling raises questions that no one is prepared to answer. A biting, darkly comic new play about art, motherhood, ownership, and the terrifying cost of being seen.”

Opening night of the Lionheart Theater Festival was a smash! Getting to perform in front of an audience is one of the best feelings. I’m so grateful for everyone who made this possible, from the festival producers, to my director and fellow actor, to my husband and mother in law for watching my baby while I galavant off to the theater. 💕 I missed this.
