Samhain: Limerick’s Hallowe’en Festival returns, 22–26 October 2026! 🐷

The Noble Pig is back—reclaiming a dark image from Limerick’s past with humour, pride and a gloriously unsettling Samhain spirit.

Across the festival, discover legendary storytelling with Eddie Lenihan, haunting history and graveyard tours, music, aerial and contemporary dance, immersive theatre, ghost stories, folklore, the Vampire Swim and a walk through Pigtown’s meat-industry heritage.

Pre-festival highlights
• Tinte Marbh Samhain Exhibition, 15 October–3 November, Treaty City Brewery — free entry
• The Sailor of Oblivion by Gavin Hogg opening 16 October at 7pm, Lumen HQ — free entry
• Trotters & Turnips, 17 October, 11am–1pm, Limerick Milk Market and City streets

Main festival: 22–26 October
Events take place across Lumen HQ, Treaty City Brewery, No. 1 Pery Square, St John’s Graveyard, Istabraq Hall, the People’s Museum of Limerick, the Hunt Museum Garden and more. Tickets range from €5 to €30, with selected free events.

The countdown to Samhain begins 🎃.

Multidisciplinary artist Irena Wiktor looks out from high up above the streets of Limerick at the launch of @samhainlimerick ... Limerick’s Hallowe’en Festival!

Clutching the spectral pig’s head which embodies this year’s theme by @lumenstreettheatre, and takes aim at old Victorian propaganda. Look out for the mighty pig returning to the streets—reclaimed as a haunting phantom of Limerick's industrial history.

Have a butcher’s ..👀🌧️🐷🎩

Creating a spooky atmosphere in the Limerick rain today at the launch of Samhain: Limerick’s Hallowe’en Festival. This year, @lumenstreettheatre is turning Victorian cartoon propaganda completely upside down.

The mighty pig returns to the streets of Limerick, not as an industry staple, but as a ghostly reminder of the city’s past.

Meet Billy the Butcher (based on the butcher of Little Catherine Street history and Daniel Day-Lewis in Gangs of New York) and the pigs, a spectral nod to the city's historic O'Meara’s Bacon Factory.

ABOUT OUR POSTER ARTWORK:

Lumen approached Artist & Printmaker Des Mac Machon to create our poster and program cover. We explained the difficulties one faces when creating work in public spaces. Artists seeking to create public art frequently encounter extensive administrative requirements and complex regulations. Securing the necessary permits
and approvals can be a lengthy and exhausting process, often consuming significant time and energy. These obstacles can hinder or even halt artistic initiatives, making it challenging for artists to maintain their creative momentum. The poster image is Des’s interpretation of this process.

We hope you enjoy his work as much as we
do, check him out @desmacprints. Festival Supported by @artscouncilireland & @limerickcityandcountycouncil taken in Limerick City by @samhainlimerick
