POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Join us for the first iteration of our Material Cultures workshop and lecture series, Reclamation Praxis on Sunday, October 25th from 1-4 PM @thedigschicago.

This event brings together artist-educators Naomi Coke and AJ McClennon for a conversation on wild clay, sustainable artmaking, and the cultural histories held within the materials we gather and create with.

The conversation facilitated by @samiahfulcher will be shortly followed by a hands-on wild clay processing demonstration led by Naomi. Materials provided. No prior experience necessary.

Naomi Coke: @fearofablackfemme is an oral historian, community design practitioner, and land artist whose practice draws on Jamaican Maroon lineages, material reclamation, and intergenerational land healing. With a background in regenerative building practices and archival research, Naomi’s work focuses on place-based approaches to repair, relation building, and Black-Indigenous futurity.

AJ McClenon: @middlenamejanae is an assistant professor at SAIC and active multidisciplinary artist in Chicago by way of Washington, D.C. whose work brings personal narrative into conversation with empirical data to explore sociopolitical concepts of truth, cultural amnesia, and their absurdities.

$10-20 sliding scale suggested donation. 100% of donations go directly to our featured artists for sharing their time and expertise. Priority for BIPOC artists, educators, and community members.

Spaces are limited. RSVP link in bio. by @samiahfulcher

a blessing for revolution #27:

may everything i touch bear the fruits of my labor.
may my spirit be tended to with loving-kindness.
may the mind of my mind, and the full flesh and bone of this changeling body, know peace and tenderness in every season. let there be room. a clearing. a path to greater intimacy with the world surrounding. let it be a communion with life itself. may i revel in the process of discovery, guided by every benevolent ancestor into the uncharted territory of my being.

may I slowly, deliberately, passionately, become my most devoted lover. by @samiahfulcher

Ahdenah Priscilla Fulcher-Tate
born July 21st 1952
Brooklyn, NY

The veil feels thin today. A closing of distance I am grateful for as I think of her and light a candle.

What a history left in her wake. A library, a body, given back to earth, dust, ashes. A light departed for the sky or some other dimensional. Spaceward. Home.

A gift to have her name. To grieve the enormity of love that was my inheritance from her hands. I miss her beyond words. My spirit speaks in language my tongue cannot. Heart swollen with memory. Listening to one of her favorite Marvin Gaye albums bathed in incense smoke.

I sit and feel and let tears fall knowing this too is for good. To feel the weight of everything, and move, still. A lesson she taught me.

There’s so much we neglect to express to the living. Words that need to be spoken. For unbinding the soul. For healing. This evening was a reminder to sit with the ancestors. This candle flickers beside me and I think, how poised they are to listen.

To sit with you in the dark.

Winter/Spring 2026 Exhibition @uimachicago documentation by @photosbymck

I’m looking back on the first six months of 2026 in awe of all that has come and gone. My most recent exhibition co-curated with @isaiahleeart was truly an endurance test. Visioning this show began in 2025 with well over 20+ studio visits, proposal drafts (and rewrites), midnight FaceTime calls, and a stubborn belief in our ability to see into the future. The culmination of all this visioning and believing was an incredible experience shared with some of Chicago’s finest artists (who also happen to be unbelievably brilliant human beings).

Thank you to @lauren.ike for passing along the opportunity, thank you to the UIMA team for walking alongside us in this journey for the last year, thank you to the @warholfoundation for paying an independent curator to do what they love, thank you to @thevanpayne @debsokolow and @robertburnier for joining me on a weekend to reflect on what it means to be an artist in these times (if you missed the artist talk you missed an incredible hour of wisdom), and thank you to every artist featured, and every homie, lover, and friend of a friend that showed up to make this show possible.

It’s a strange time to be in this work, holding the violence of the world that is alongside hope for all that we can will into being. Independent curatorial projects are often thankless, but what an overflowing gift to be in a community of artists like this one.

I’m sitting in the light of this solstice and summer season with an immense gratitude for what we are creating together. So much more to come. by @samiahfulcher

I’ve been making worn and wiry windows lately and recently turned this one into a light box for @dreamclinicprojectspace. Lots of reflections to sit with on the practice of obscuring and the illumination of blemishes in direct light. Lots of parallels to the way I’ve found myself recently oscillating between the discomfort of being seen (in grief, in loss, etc.) and ritually hiding away (perceived all the while).

Made on my studio floor as a repetitive practice of imperfect action against equally raw material.

Thank you @purplewindowgallery for allowing me the space to give reverence to the process of making imperfect things.

I’m really excited for the opportunity to work alongside @the_maya_nguyen @chiangkaichun and @bethany_cordero as artist/curatorial residents w/ @cacoalition this year.

Grateful for a team of people to be in intimate creative study with for the next two years. What a journey to be on in good company.

Thank you to the CAC team for all the hard work and loving support in this process. by @samiahfulcher

"It Will Destroy You" has been featured by @hyperallergic as one of 10 Exhibitions to See in Chicago This Spring!

This show, curated by the incredible @samiahfulcher and @isaiahleeart, was built from the ground up by Chicago artists asking hard questions about the world we're living in right now and imagining what might come next.

We are so grateful for every artist, every visitor, and every conversation this exhibition has sparked. If you haven't made it in yet, now is the time to see it before it closes on April 19.

6:30 - 7:30 PM Moderated Discussion
7:30 - 8:00 PM Artist Q&A
8:00 - 9:00 PM Exhibition Viewing

"It Will Destroy You" brings together works by contemporary artists who interrogate the deconstruction of systems and structures that have long governed our lives. Through painting, sculpture, installation, and video, the exhibition reflects on themes of self-preservation and reconciliation as we navigate what the curators describe as a "crumbling socio-political landscape built on violence, greed, corruption, and brutality."

The exhibition features work by Michelle Alexander, Lauren Bertelson, Matias Brimmer, Robert Burnier, Alison Campbell, Zach Dobbins, Rea-Silvia Emmanouil, Sophia Farmer, Figwürm, Shanti Grandhi, Chloe Harthan, Sascha Huth, Melanie L.
