What a time to speak freely within the Capitol walls. We recently got to play our new single, Afraid, live on the steps of the Michigan State Capitol Building with Charlie of @hattiejanemusic

Thanks to @mienergymijobs and @niqueloverhodes for having us at the Capitol Day Of Action, which occurred in tandem with the epic @miclimateaction Climate Summit.

Please look over the proposed House budget cuts for environmental protections, public health and the arts — and urge elected officials to pass a budget that funds these critical services we care about before the Oct. 1 deadline.

We hope to convince legislators to exclude the $50 million for Copperwood Mine infrastructure in Wakefield Township from the 2026 budget. @protect_the_porkies by @sammacooper

We’re excited for Hearth & Hymn’s return to Sing Me Home, this year alongside guitarist, Alex Belhaj, who will be joining us for the first time! They will be performing Saturday, September 26 at 7:30pm.

Hearth & Hymn is a close harmony, minimalist folk project produced by songwriters, song collectors and multi-instrumentalists Samantha Cooper and Elisabeth Pixley-Fink. Beloved artists in the Michigan music scene, their masterful harmonies and seamless vocal blend capture a room. Raiding family songbooks and sharing old tunes, Hearth & Hymn reimagines old songs and pens future classics through a queer, feminist lens. The pair grew up immersed in “kitchen music” and have studied old-time music and vintage vocal traditions.

Alex Belhaj is a guitarist (teacher, performer, composer) primarily working in Traditional Jazz, Ragtime, Folk music, and original works. He is based in Ann Arbor, Michigan and plays frequently in Detroit, across the Midwest, and New Orleans. Alex has played with the James Dapogny Quartet, Paul Kinger’s Easy Street Jazz Band, the Cakewalkin’ Jass Band, and guitarist Joe Summers. He currently leads the Crescent City Quartet and Quintet, and along with Erik McIntyre is a co-leader of the duo Belhaj & McIntyre. He performs frequently with Aaron Jonah Lewis’ Ragtime Banjo Revival, Pete Siers’ Kerrytown Stompers, Chris Tabaczynski’s Wolverines, and Dawn Giblin Quintet, among others. Alex has played the New Orleans French Quarter Festival, the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, the Satchmo Festival, the San Diego Jazz Festival, Redwood Coast Music Festival, and the Evergreen Jazz Festival. by @sammacooper

Amber & Sam's series debut! Jordan's triumphant return!

Earthwork Music Collective believes in the intrinsic power of music to raise both community and self-awareness. Comprised of musicians, teachers, healers, farmers, water protectors, and community organizers, they encourage cooperation and collaboration, using music as a tool to serve, heal, inspire and empower. This monthly series features members from all around MI converging to create cosmic collabs, cultivate lasting relationships with our community, and elevate environmental and social justice movements.

Self-proclaimed Loud Mouth Ghetto Girl Amber Hasan (Flint/TC) sees writing as sacred, a vehicle for feeling spiritually whole and fulfilling her life purpose. Amber’s work focuses on bringing light to dark places and situations while helping others find and use their voices as tools of empowerment. Her support of residents affected by the Flint Water Crisis led to the creation of her natural product line “Mama’s Healing Hands” and artist collective The Sister Tour, a grassroots organization providing resources and safe spaces for women artists and entrepreneurs.

Jordan Hamilton creates music that fuses the soulful voice of the cello with hip-hop rhythms and heartfelt melodies, offering a sound that feels fresh and personal yet hints at tradition. Emotional energy crafted from integrity, immaterial and immortal, experienced at the speed of sound, with a bit of bounce, groove by the ounce, and all the jump you’ll need to move.

Samantha Cooper’s voice is a gentle force. Her songs speak for their sound; from contemplative respites to keen PSA’s. Sam's voice and violin appear on over seventy midwest albums. Sam also co-produces Hearth & Hymn and Solidarity Songs, a choir uplifting emerging songs within liberation movements.

💧WATER WEEKEND💧

If you’re joining The Three Fires Confederacy Bridge Walk For Water on Labor Day, you can pick up your Tshirt from a Check-In Tent at both sides of the bridge. Native & non-native water protectors are welcome to join them to walk, pray, and protect the water. Please see further details about the walk at the link in our bio.

6:00 am: Check In & T-Shirt Pick Up | NORTH SIDE: Bridge View Park SOUTH SIDE: Indian Pathways Park

NORTH SIDE: Bridge View Park, St. Ignace, MI. West side of Bridge. Look for a pop up tent, and Sault Ste Marie Tribe and MiCAN banners! You will likely be directed to a large grass parking lot once you arrive.

SOUTH SIDE: Indian Pathways Park, Mackinac City, MI. There will be a blue MiCAN pop up tent w/ a MiCAN banner – grab your shirt here! This is right next to the Great Lakes Creatives vendor area, described below.

We are located before the Bridge entrance at our vendor areas on Nicolette between E Central and Jamet, across from The Days Inn Hotel: 206 N Nicolet St. Mackinaw City, MI. Another landmark is the Weinerlicious restaurant with the giant hot dog on top at the corner of E Central Ave and Nicolette. If you see the giant hot dog, keep walking towards the Straits and you’ll see us on the left in the park!

“Right next to the South side Check In Booth, you’ll find the @greatlakescreatives vendor area! We’ll have pop up tents with a white, interactive water address map, free water/cups for folks, and our blue water themed selfie station.

We’ll also have Line 5 canvassing guides to share for “What’s Under The Bridge” conversations. Great Lakes Creatives also hosts a camp during Water Weekend.”
