For someone who wears a fleece jacket when it’s 20 degrees outside, this trek was a pretty HUGE deal. The mountains humble you, but the cold… the cold challenges you in unimaginable ways. It was..
4 days of views that just kept getting better.
4 days of chasing the sun.
4 days of appreciating the little things.
4 days of my body existing in varying degrees of frozen.
4 days of wondering why I live in a city chasing something I’m not even sure of.
4 days of wishing for some hot water.
4 days of asking WHY I WOULD DO THIS TO MYSELF.
4 DAYS of asking everyone and everything WHY IT’S SO DAMN COLD and if it’ll get better tomorrow (it didn’t, it got COLDER).
I don’t know how I survived camping at one of the coldest campsites in India, but I volunteered for kitchen duty because the kitchen tent meant warmth, a small respite from the biting cold. I’ve never mentally prepared myself for anything the way I did just to brush my teeth or wash my tiffin in water that was colder than ice.
Now, more than a week later, I still don’t know how I did it and my mind is still blown by the fact that Kal Paasi is actually lichens. Anyway all I want to ask you is… did you know you only get vegetarian food in Rishikesh? by @sammy_422

This is Amit.
He asked if I wanted flowers. I said no, then he asked me the time and I said “ek theez.” He laughed and asked where I was from, and that’s how our conversation began.
His school is far, so he’s saving up to buy a bicycle. He’s saved 2k so far and needs to save 2k more. He wanted to know how far Europe is from Rishikesh and how much it would cost to fly there, so we googled it together.
He wrote his name in English with his eyes closed. Showed me his tattoos. Told the guy who was pestering me to go away because I wasn’t interested.
Probably the cutest kid I’ve ever met.,less interested in selling flowers and more interested in having a conversation. I gave him some money, we said our goodbyes.
Now, his story might be a ruse, but this kid was definitely the highlight of my trip. by @sammy_422
