Birthday Burger: Paris Edition!

45 today.

For reasons I have discussed thoroughly in therapy, I’ve decided that this is a “scary” age. It feels older than my early 40s did. I’m closer to 50 than to 40. I am decidedly “middle-aged,” whatever that means. Like all of us, I feel there’s so much I haven’t done, while I find myself looking back and wondering where all the time has gone.

And yet, I look around at what I’ve built in 22 years in New York City: my astonishing friends, my partners past and present, my various careers, my home, my art, and all the things I love so dearly, and maybe things aren’t so scary after all.

When I turned 40, I was told by many that this decade is when we come into our power and confidence. I’ve felt that especially this year with @ricky_locci_dpt and @sliceofjake, who’ve helped me feel confident and sexy in my body and my self. I’m looking forward to feeling this way for, at the very least, the rest of my forties.

Even if the journey is half over, it’s been quite a trip. Thanks for joining me this far.

@samperwin didn’t need another diet, he needed a plan he could actually stick to

For years, he’d lose 20 pounds, gain it back, and repeat the cycle. Restrictive meal plans, cutting out foods, and all-or-nothing thinking always led to the same outcome: burnout 😮‍💨

👀 So we did things differently

Now he’s down 25lbs!! Instead of chasing quick results, we built a lifestyle that worked whether he was performing on contract or enjoying life off contract. We focused on effective workouts, flexibility, accountability, and improving his relationship with food

The result? 🤔

Not only is Sam down 20 pounds, but he’s continuing to lose fat, build muscle, but most importantly, he’s confident he can maintain it 💪

🙅‍♂️ Because the goal was never JUST to help Sam lose 20 pounds. At FIF, we wanted to make sure he never had to lose the same 20 pounds again

Today would have been my 10th wedding anniversary. Please indulge me some vulnerability on main.

I don’t talk about my marriage or divorce very much anymore. We were together for 8 years, married for two of them. It was a difficult relationship, to say the least, and it did not end well. We have not seen each other since I ended things in 2018 and have not spoken since a phone call in 2019. Our divorce was finalized in early 2020.

I think a lot about the person I was when I decided to go through with the wedding, despite reeling from grief after my mother’s death less than a year earlier. The aftermath of that was the darkest time in our relationship. I tried to call it off. He was struggling and ill-equipped to give me the support I needed. There were so many times when I should have walked away. I thought I could fix everything by sheer force of will. I married him anyway.

For all the problems in the marriage, the wedding itself was a glorious, beautiful day. The last slide is what I hold on to most: my friends, my chosen family, who stood beside me with love even when I doubted myself, and are still standing beside me today. I am eternally grateful for them.

I am not the person I was 10 years ago, and I hope he isn’t either. We grow and change if we let ourselves, and hopefully, as I did, we find the courage to leave behind the things that no longer serve us.
