Prior to breaking my neck in 2016, any free moment I had I spent in the ocean. Since then, putting a camera on my lap and filming surfing has been something that’s kept my connection with the ocean healthy.

I remember the first time I returned to the ocean after my injury. I sat in my wheelchair, unable to even get onto the sand, and I sobbed.

Something that was so dear to me, that was a part of my identity, was taken away from me, and it didn’t feel fair.

For a few months, I grappled with depression… and then I picked up a camera.

I now consider myself lucky enough to feel like I’m still out in the lineup with my camera. I’m able to enjoy those little moments, and the immense beauty that the ocean has to offer.

But the cherry on top, my camera introduced me to people. To people like Jimmy.
It forced me to get out, get creative, talk with people, and look at my surroundings in a whole way.

Recently, I have had an itch to get out into raw, swampy Florida. After a bit of research, this was one of the closest options that my wheelchair could handle.

Katarina and I loaded up the van, assembled all of the camera gear, and headed out to try and catch sunrise at the #orlandowetlandspark

Planning & packing lunch the day before, getting to bed early, getting up early, getting the van loaded and getting me transferred into my off-road chair are just the cliff notes when it comes to getting up for the sunrise. I’m so fortunate to have a partner who is just as ambitious as I am to make it happen.🥹😩🫶

We did this in late August, so it was about 2000°F outside… We are certainly looking forward to coming back here in the cooler temperatures in hopes to maybe see some migratory birds, and other wildlife!

Wedding/birthday trip up to #nola was exactly what I needed!

I’ve been dying to travel and @bigbad_tattoos extended the invite to watch him and Julia tie the knot… (Thank you for including us in your special day!)

So, we planned the trip and NONE of it would have even been a remote possibility without my amazing partner in crime @katarina.francesca

I know that traveling can be difficult with all the extra obstacles my disability can present, but the fact that you greet every one of them with a smile makes every moment bliss.

Shout out to @colindmurray for being the best bud and keeping me under his wing as he gave me the tour. 🫶

Bourbon Street… I saw you. I made it through you. No offense, but I hope that’s the last time I see you.😅 It’s certainly not the most accessible city, but I can say that I enjoyed it, everyone was hospitable, the art, music and food were all beautiful!

Here’s hoping this is the beginning of many more travels🤞😌

I couldn’t hold the mic, so I clipped it on the closest thing to me…

If you have an idea, a buddy, or a toy that you think might make getting a quadriplegic out in Floridian nature easier, I’m all ears!

This is one of my favorite parts about filmmaking, finding a way to make it all happen. I’ve been able to figure out a few ways on my own, but I want to hear what you guys think.
