Our trip to Destin was just a stop on our way to New Orleans, where we got to see Jon and Julia tie the knot🄳

We’ve got loads to talk about as far as everything we experienced on our trip, but for now here’s a few photos we snapped while enjoying the city!

Although the wax may be dirty, it still smells the way I remember it. After 10 years in a garage, I think they’re all sporting a few extra dings, but seeing these tired old boards in a whole new light is something I didn’t know that I’d ever have the capacity to do post injury.

Initially, when I broke my neck in 2016, I thought that surfing had been taken from me. Boy was I wrong.
Little that I know the break that I commuted to would become my home. Little did I know that the surfers I had always admired from afar in the lineup would become friends. Little did I know, that I would have the opportunity to work alongside the legends who paved the path for surfing to become what it is today.

Every day of my life, I work to see the good in this world. Trust me, there are days where it feels like that can be an impossible task, but other days… It’s so easy.

I’m lucky I was able to experience surfing.
I’m lucky that I’m still able to experience it, in a whole new way.
I’m so lucky that I have a partner that helps me with anything and everything.
I’m so lucky to be able to continue to live this life, with all of its highs and lows.

I’m so grateful for my camera, my time outside, and most of all my partner for helping me make this all happen. šŸ™‚ā€ā†•ļø

We have so much fun exploring together, such a blast to each have a camera, shoot all day and then come home to review everything together!šŸ™Œ

Here’s some of our favorite shots from #orlandowetlands

For the people that follow, you know
For the people that live this life, you certainly know
For the randoms… Accessibility is not something that is super common. A lot of times when living life from a wheelchair you can feel like a bit of an afterthought. So obviously in the city like #neworleans that has a lot of historic buildings, accessibility can feel pretty much nonexistent.

Riding on the sidewalks was too chaotic, people stepping out in front of me and I’m trying desperately not to scalp anyone’s ankles. We moved down into the street, however, when we got back to where we came from, we realized that the street was totally blocked off. I was going to have to go back a block and then get onto the sidewalk so I could get around this thing. (the importance of curb cuts…)

I figured if I reclined my chair, I could probably make it under it, but I knew it was gonna be a spectacle. My wheelchair and disability naturally draw eyes. I spend a lot of my time ignoring it, sometimes I even try to actively avoid it. That sucks though because I’m just changing my life because I don’t wanna have people gawking.
Sometimes you just gotta lean in… Literally

Here’s to taking things in stride… well in roll I guess šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

Thanks for the assist @colindmurray

Prior to breaking my neck in 2016, any free moment I had I spent in the ocean. Since then, putting a camera on my lap and filming surfing has been something that’s kept my connection with the ocean healthy.

I remember the first time I returned to the ocean after my injury. I sat in my wheelchair, unable to even get onto the sand, and I sobbed.

Something that was so dear to me, that was a part of my identity, was taken away from me, and it didn’t feel fair.

For a few months, I grappled with depression… and then I picked up a camera.

I now consider myself lucky enough to feel like I’m still out in the lineup with my camera. I’m able to enjoy those little moments, and the immense beauty that the ocean has to offer.

But the cherry on top, my camera introduced me to people. To people like Jimmy.
It forced me to get out, get creative, talk with people, and look at my surroundings in a whole way.

Thank you Jimmy
Thank you surfing
Thank you photography

Here’s to more days like these! šŸ»
(Maybe some better waves next time, thoughā€¦šŸ™ƒ)

Happy birthday to the greatest person I know. My most handsome homie, the best dad to Oliver, and partner in crime!

Everything about you is absolute perfection. The way you ace every pop quiz I seem to give you about random cars, boats, and planes šŸ˜‚ The way we butcher song lyrics and each others’ names. The gentle way you listen and care for me and Oliver. The way you get after your dreams no matter what madness life throws at you - and how you do it with a positive and laid back attitude. Life is better with you in it and you’ve taught me so much about resilience.

So pleased at our ability to travel together and all the goals we have planned for this next year. You truly are unstoppable!

Everyone go wish @samscribner a happy birthday! He’s done so much and we’re all so proud of him!
